It took me 65 years to realize the only time to eat is WHEN YOU"RE HUNGRY
Don't eat to satisfy your sense of taste. I love to eat good food who doesn't? But if you're not hungry you don't need to eat just because you like to. In my case I realized that I'm not hungry at lunch time so I don't eat lunch and amazingly have not starved to death 234 at the peak 175 today

Very true on habit eating. Most of the food we consume is not necessary. I was 145 in high school...149 today Done with great integrity.

Weight loss and maintenance is super simple.
Because it is easy to objectively measure (digital scale), and the process is entirely predictable and consistent. The first question you have to ask yourself: Do you want to lose weight, or is over eating more important to you? You have to choose one. Can have either one, but not both. If you are overweight, you have been over eating. That’s a biological fact, simple as that. But the good news is just as over eating guarantees you will gain weight, the opposite is also true. So to lose weight, you simply have to under eat for a period of time. The problem is, for a variety of reasons the majority of people now have a grossly distorted view of what is normal eating. Esp. for people our age (metabolism definitely slows later in life). That requires a complete mind reset and different understanding of food and calories. It can be done, but it takes time. |

Covid saw me going the other way. In March 2020, I was aware my scale was going to 210 on a regular basis. About that time my dear sweet wife, who makes peanut butter _ chocolate chip cookies to die for mentioned I might think about reversing the trend. That did it. Cookies ( my precious!) became verboten. Portion control did the rest. Over the next year and a half I dropped an average of two pounds per month. Now I fluctuate around 171 - 173.
Benefits: my knees don't complain if I have to kneel for a short while. Muscle cramps have gone away except after heavy work, such as haying. Shirts I put away a decade ago fit again. I am back to a 34" waist again and bid my 36 and 38 inch wardrobe "Goodbye. " You can do this if you really give a rat's arse about yourself. Best Les

For the past two days, I have cut my portions back to normal. Now, the mid night snack will stop too as soon as I clean out all my fruits in my ref. I eat too much damn fruit at night. Hopefully I can keep my eating under control. This is the first time I really let myself go since. Getting back on my bike after this year due to my brace on my knee. According to my doc, the tendon should heel up by then.

I did have Jamican food for lunch. You know that typical saucy foods I like but I was good, only had the piece of chicken and little rice and a corner of the roti. Must get back to 150-155. This 170-175 BS aint cuttin' it. |

Eat more protein and fewer carbs, as a general rule. Avoid processed foods as much as possible.
Change your lifestyle, don't "diet." Lift weights. Build muscles that will help you burn the fat. It's actually "better" than cardio (you still need cardio, though). You should be able to ride your bike with a torn meniscus--not sure about the PCL. I tore my meniscus about a year ago...couldn't run, but riding a bike didn't hurt at all.

My wife and I are fighting the 9pm snack monster. I discovered Tillamook Ice Cream and Mrs Richardson's Hot Fudge sauce on a BOGO one day during the pandemic and therein lies the 9pm ice cream habit. We are fighting it mightily and have now gone over a week without a break down. I have gained probably 10 lbs over the covid deal and I am tracing it to this dang habit.

I got Covid, lost 5 pounds, now they're back. I hear you about finishing left overs, as well as supporting restaurants.
Here's what I do, and it may not work for you so you'll have to find your thing. 1. I weigh myself everyday. 2. I don't eat breakfast until I'm hungry. I do have coffee. 3. For dinner, I only eat half the serving of what I normally eat. Then I wait. If I'm still hungry I have Greek yogurt or one of those KIND bars. 4. I try my best to at least have fruits and vegetables first, so having cut fruits in the fridge helps. Then salad maybe twice a week at least. 5. Oatmeal with raisins and almonds or walnuts is my go-to breakfast. 6. And I have started cutting back on sugar. This seems to be the one thing that causes 1 or 2 pound spikes overnight. That and chips. Bread, not so much but now I know it makes me feel bloated. 7. Water when needed. I don't go for 8 glasses. I go for "not thirsty" since I'm sitting most of the time for work. If I go to the gym that day, I drink a bit more. 8. On the days I don't go to the gym, I go for a walk. The one thing I would say is: only change ONE thing at a time for two weeks. |
