The other headline was, "Pattern of Abuse is Alleged at Mushroom Farms." There is a lot of water running around in the desert but apparently Palm Springs is still there. There was a run on stores Saturday and Sunday filling Costco's parking lots to capacity. So now everyone has plenty of batteries. Edit: I should add that radar shows no rain in sight at least until noon. Last edited by Zeke; 08-21-2023 at 07:31 AM.. |

This is the same rain gauge shown in my earlier post. It was not emptied between photos. This is what we got from this storm in total.

Your plants and garden loved it. Mine too. Nothing like getting rinsed out with rain water.
Edit: Scott, that's exactly what LGB airport shows. Last edited by Zeke; 08-21-2023 at 08:30 AM.. |

Its all fine around here within 20 miles of LA and I talked to friends in Orange County as far as Laugana Beach. All are fine but having to deal with a little rain fall for a day and night. Power did go out on the lower section of our hill but it was restored by this morning. Nothing serious. Life is normal this morning. LA school district is completely closed for the day, so we drove across town for an early lunch. They wanted Dim Sum so it was all well out there. People going about their business. Our media always have "STORM WATCH OF 2011" even though it is only 1/4" of rain for the entire two days. They find a hill, show water rushing down the gutter. In terms of the earthquake. it was felt but no one bat an eye. I didn't fell a thing since I was at the market.
This was a typical November early season rain like I wrote earier. Every time it rains, we get a bit of flooding in the low lying areas such as fwy underpasses due to blocked drainage from trash our wonderful citizens of Los Angeles can't seem to find trash cans. With the homeless camping throwing their **** all over the place, its has gotten worst. |

From what I have seen on MSM the 'hurricane' that missed San Diego entirely (was the primary target early) did cause some damage and flooding further North East of CA and some localized parts of SoCal. We got 1.5" of rain and zero wind beyond 15 mph. My friends had a party with neighbors and BBQ on their street. All quiet. Meanwhile other neighbors were panic buying staples and formed huge lines in local grocery stores. My daughter who was picking up some bread and shampoo was witness.
Again, as others have stated the forecast models are way off and that is what the idiots on local and national news rely on. I watched a Fox 5 News local broadcast yesterday and a female reporter in the streets of Ojai said she was in a torrential rain storm and yet there was no rain falling. Her rain jacket was wet but zero rain falling. Sure it was falling earlier but nothing torrential. Then they pivoted to a 'major' earthquake but video showed 2-3 seconds of shaking and then over. Apparently the younger generation does not understand what a real earthquake is. Grew up in SoCal since the early 60's and a couple stand out. I was in Japan for the big one in 2011 that set the new high bar. A 5.1 in SoCal is routine. I am so disgusted in the so called news these days. And politics but will keep that out of this thread. We had a 5.2 directly beneath this one’s in the late 80s. We lost a few plates and a cheap clock fell off the wall.
I do remember the Sylmar quake, I suppose it’s the earliest one I remember and it was a doozy. And of course the LA earthquake that dropped interstate 10 in the late 90s (?). My children are between 27 and 31 and you were right, I don’t think any of them have any memory of a decent sized earthquake.

just like this guy. Funny stuff
Dumbest thing is the defense of the reporter saying the difference in concrete and grass and notice the wind is blowing the same direction he is leaning. Last edited by look 171; 08-21-2023 at 08:05 PM.. |

Food for thought. Yes, it does seem ridiculous in hindsight, but you know what they say.... Meanwhile, there are some real problems in some areas of San Bernardino County. They are localized, but still some real losses that really nothing could have prevented. |

It was definitely unusual to have that kind of rain in August - we got 5 1/4” up against the foothills east of LA - but aside from that we’ve certainly had worse, even earlier this year.
Oh, little to no wind either.

I'm sure the people in Cathedral City who have foot deep mud to deal with, wish someone had listened better to the forecasts.

I've only seen the LA "River" empty in movies and TV shows. Did the storm fill it up?

I've never seen it "filled up", but let me tell you, it's a ferocious sight even at 1/3 or 1/2 full. The power and energy behind all that moving water sends a shiver down my back.

The sad thing to think about are all those who are (literally) crazy enough to live between its banks.
