Hell is other people ;-) Thanks for sharing, I feel less weird now.
It *should* not bother me, it's 100% legal, my wife thinks I'm crazy for hating it, I do it when I visit other people's houses, but yes it annoys me sooo much too when some unknown leaves their car in front of my house in "my spot" LOL... In a big city or busy street no problem, but yeah in a cul de sac, where it feels semi private and feels like your spot over time, it drives me nuts. It's not entirely rational and in my case it's mostly visitors that do that, neighbors are good. One such visitor once blocked my driveway and took off for several hours, I could have had it towed but instead may have emptied something really smelly on the windshield cowl (or not) for their future nasal enjoyment. Solutions ? not really.. Therapy maybe ? I've pre-emptively started moving one of my cars from my driveway into the street spot in front of my house instead, to ensure that my wife can park somewhere near the house (instead of leaving it to chance). I feel 100% silly doing that (if I need to use the street parked car, I'll immediately move one of the driveway cars in its spot!!!) - that's a quirk I cannot seem to correct and I'd rather feel dumb doing this than feel annoyed later... I always like a fence around my place too... Maybe it's aterritorial gene. At least I have cars in my garage (not junk like most neighbors). Can't help with the quandary. If I could afford the extra property tax, I'd move further way from people, behind a gate and a long driveway, and blissfully forget what outside the gate looks like. This would do

Everybody needs a hooptie or Fred Sanford's pick-up for solutions like this ... or just put all yer mobile toterz (go buy some... or STEAL theirs
) and reserve YOUR space... Then shoot them !It isn't yerz as posted ... but they ain't right, and they ain't gonna change either. ... the grown kidz ....45 ACP ... or a truck, etc. (rent one or contact Denis ... LOL)... win-win ![]() Or give a big dude a fitty and have him knock on their door and tell them again .... less politely... I'd prolly just rant about it on PPOT tho' .... it really helps me deal with people too ![]() Mebbe 2026 will change everyone

I had the same problem just before I moved a few years ago. Long time neighbor went crazy with cars. Many Cities restrict the amount of time that a car can be parked in one spot. AND the City may have restrictions on parking ANY commercial vehicle or work truck. This is not the HOA, but the City. Additionally the HOA had similar restrictions and will access penalties against the offenders property.
When I came back from Astan, this whole mess started. It got damn intense with the retired LAPD Detective Father and the POS FBI agent BIL. It was not only me but three other long term neighbors. Got the POS father and BIL to back off when we filed formal complaints through channels (a real Pain but it worked). AND when the offenders asked for forgiveness on the $2000 plus in HOA violations the answer was no, and the HOA attached their home. Oh and then there was the unpermitted structural changes to the house that their mortgage company was pretty upset about. Yeah, absolutely the worst neighbor and experience of my life. I viewed it as signal that it was time to move. But I could never figure out what set the neighbor off after 13 years and my three years to get out of there????

I can't tell you how glad you guys make me to live in the country with a 1/4 mile long driveway.
Many of our friends live in suburban environments and each time we visit I quietly appreciate our rural way of life. Now get off my hay field!

It really chaps my ass to this day that, a year ago, a good portion of my neighborhood showed up at my city zoning adjustment hearing to protest my getting my FFL. Yet, plenty of these folks have five cars, living in houses with 2-3 car garages, none of the cars are garaged and there's a constant reshuffling of cars in the driveways and on the street. I'm sure this is all legal per city code, but I'm sure the HOA doesn't allow it. Part of what trips the need for a zoning adjustment is running any kind of home-based business that generates even a single visitor to the home who's not a part of the household. Meanwhile, our vehicles are garaged 100% of the time, I might have a visitor or two per month, who parks in my driveway. But everyone else can have their cars everywhere, as long as they're not running a home-based business.

There's the law, there's homeowners covenants, and then there is being just a good & courteous neighbor. I was lucky 10 years ago as mine was a totally dead quiet and empty street. But nothing lasts.
Guy across the street who moved in a few years ago works for the power company and now parks his big boom work truck in the street, and sometimes two vehicles there. Also, because it's an expensive resort town he sometimes rents out a room or something, and then there are more cars on the street. Finally he found a used portable basketball hoop that he's planted in the street for his kids, so they are all playing there and into my drive. The covenants state no commercial vehicles, and cars in your garage or on your property... But, what are you going to do? This town has "dark sky" laws, that aren't enforced, sound restrictions that are not enforced... So I just have to be like Clint and say "Get off of my lawn." It goes with getting older and less tolerant of idiots.

I'd start by kindly asking why they're parking where they are. Understanding their reasons may, or may not, alter your being upset.
I'll add that in my neighborhood parking anywhere on the street will get you crucified. One reason is the streets are old and only 18' wide. More importantly, you'll be blocking someone's view of the water.

Zeke, I have an umbrella with USAA and my classic cars insured with Hagerty. USAA did have me increase the coverage I had with Hagerty.

Just reading this thread makes my blood boil.
When I first moved to Alexandria VA, I had an old lady across the street with a similar son that was a worthless POS. One time he parked a 18 wheeler tractor in the street in front of her house. He claims it was to fix it. I really don't care what the reason was since it was 100% illegal to do so. I called the PD and got him a nice $400 ticket. He confronted me but I just denied it to see his reaction. He melted away and went back to mommy's house. The old lady also had a tenant once that decided to park in front of my house since I had shade. I caught him one day and put a stop to that doodoo. He tried to play the 'public' street nonsense, I just told him beat it and then told her same and that I would report her to the city for lodging a dude in her basement without license. It stopped most riki tik.

I love our current neighborhood. Not one car on the street on a regular basis 90% of the time. Only visitors for a short period, and all residents park in the garage, or in their own driveway. I have never understood storing $150 dollars of crap in the garage, and parking a $50,00+ car in the driveway or on the street.
Our neighborhood covenant that every home buyer has to sign has a clause, single family residents, and no long term parking on the streets. We had one lady that owns a house here, and she got married, and moved into to he husband's house, and turned her house into a rent house. She promptly rented to 4 20 something guys. 4 vehicles, and the garage full of crap, so two cars in the driveway, and two on the street. The HOA sent a letter to the home owner, with a copy of the covenant. She decided to hire an attorney, and sue. The attorney looked at the covenant, and told her, I will take you money and sue, but you will loose. She folded, and evicted the 4 guys, and rented to a nice family, and they fit right in.

Our neighbors have at least six cars on a regular basis, their kids don’t ever seem to move out. Nobody parks in the garage. I think cars sitting out makes a neighborhood look junky, even if they are decent cars. One of many reasons I hate living in a neighborhood.

I went to PT this afternoon and when I got home there is a random pick-up parked in front of my house. Not one I know and it did sort of set me on alert. Our hood is a mix of retirees/old folks and younger families with HS age kids. It is not the sort of place where a random vehicle just appears on the street. Happy to report that I did not have to shoot anyone...
And let me revisit the OP: is the neighbor older/elderly and the cars belong to his poop head adult kids? I'm sure the neighbor is just embarrassed beyond belief but can't control those poop heads. It reminds me of a family that lives across from my in-laws. The elderly parents were in the house until they died several years ago. Before their death, one of their daughters and her husband easily in their 50's moved in with the old folks. The son-in-law, has/had two cargo vans that he parked on the street and both leaked oil everywhere. Couldn't be bothered to put them in the driveway. The old folks pass away, then the daughter dies a few years later. Now the son-in-law with the two cargo vans lives there by himself. So odd that the house ended up with an in-law and not part of the estate as I believe there was another daughter.
