...as we Georgians watch our last remaining drops of water evaporate before our eyes...

It sure is a shame we can't send this stuff to Georgia...folks in Oregon & Cali would be glad to do so.

watching LA drivers in the rain is definately a laugh the first time you see them.
The rest of the country reacts to 6" of snow like LA reacts to 1/2" of rain.

Sounds like a good weekend to stay in the garage and work on the P-car.

(edit) The newbies, "Caligonians", are really fun to watch in black ice conditions...

What is there to know about driving in the rain?

The flooding expected is very exaggerated and isolated. We are going to get an inch or two of rain in some places, less in others. some places will have mud slides, some will flood, but it will probably be isolated to .0001% of the total area. The news picks the very worst place they can find and then represents it as if the entire state is in the same condition, that isn't true at all. They don't say that one street is flooded or 6 houses out of 2 million are damaged. |

I just remembered that I need to salt the Ice off the driveway and plug in my truck if I want it to start tomorrow...

Do a few laps around Portland (OR) International raceway in a driving rainstorm....you'll figure it out. On the street? The first heavy rains of the season are MUCH slicker than the rains of February...the early rains bring all the oil drips back to the road surface. Body shop owners pray for rain as much as they pray for black ice. (edit) Like people living in snow country can distinguish between the various types of snow? True Oregonians know of the various types of rain, and the driving hazards these types contain...

Most in So. Cal. don't realize you kinda have to slow down in the wet.
As in, you can't hit a big puddle of standing water at 85 mph. Or the car doesn't steer or brake the same on wet slippery pavement as it does on dry. |

No doubt, we aren't used to driving in the wet stuff here. With so many autos, there is a giant oil slick on the first rains. Another issue is flooded roads because being near sea level, drainage is slow and otherwise inadequate anyway.
All those polls, where are the worst drivers? Is there a state by state comparision? I know Ca has to log the most miles per capita or otherwise. |

In all the places I've either visited or lived, Florida hands-down has the absolute worst drivers imaginable.

I have personally seen it rain in excess of 24"(think it was like 26, but more than two feet) in a 12 hour period when I lived in Conroe. Stranded on high ground at my father-in-law's place for two days afterward, but his hardwood floors were dry. It rains harder in Texas, but it is pretty flat so it just gets wet rather than washing away like California. Here in Carmichael a good storm might just take out my cherry tomatoes.

Where are all those rugged individualist types that were talking about how New Orleanians should have taken in stride, their houses being under water for a month?

Probably busy working - paying for rebuilding the same poorly-conceived city the same way so that history can repeat itself in 20 years.

OK POP, thats a good one. If the mudslides, floods, and fires wipe out a section of Malibu, then rebuilding should cease there as well.
