Actually the team had a different take, multiple players have indicated that when Sullivan arrived and challenged the team to "take the coaching", Crosby stepped up and led by example(which a good captain would do) and everyone bought in.
I agree his final stat line wasn't great and his MVP win was surprising(I am sure the 2 in game 6 swayed some votes). I wouldn't have minded seeing Phil, Letang, or Murray get the award.

To say the team carried him is a little much.

They were, at that point in mid-January, 12th in the Eastern Conference – behind Montreal, Ottawa and other ne’er-do-wells who would miss the playoffs by a mile.

But the Penguins are the NHL’s best team ever since, making one of the NHL’s most remarkable in-season U-turns to win it all.

Crosby is the biggest reason why. The now 28-year-old “kid” from Cole Harbour, N.S., charged back into the scoring race with a torrid 50-goal, 110-point pace over the final 40 games of the regular season. Then, deep in the playoffs with his team on the brink, he added three huge goals – all game winners – in the conference finals, as the Penguins rallied to win in seven games against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Had they left him in the press box the Pens would probably have knocked the Sharks out in four.

Bowling must have been bowling and missed Thornton giving two cross checks to Crosby's head, (taking off his helmet), then for good measure another one in the back. And he must have been bowling again when Overcheckin slashed him right on the hand. Is OK. The parade is tomorrow in The CITY OF CHAMPIONS.
The Pens were the better team. Even the haters realize that.

Two side notes...
1). The Pens even partied in the locker room like real men. No friggin' ski goggles when spraying/drinking the well earned champagne. Not like the sissy baseball players and I'm sure the NBA will wear them also.

2). Any one else see Letang's wife on the ice? Holy Moly

Back to Cindy being carried by the team.
Remember his stats at the beginning of the year. If it was anyone but the golden boy he would have been shipped to the AHL so fast it would have caused whiplash.
To his credit, he did pull out of the slump at the beginning of the season and that ain't easy. By the end of the year he had great numbers and that is a the sign of a great player. That said, there were players that deserved MVP than Cindy and IMO the ONLY reason he got it was because everyone stumbles over themselves to worship at his feet.

People like Howe, Beliveau (yes I admire a Hab), Gretzky, Orr.. were far better sportsman any day of the week than Cindy has been in the sum total of his career. Maybe someday he'll grow up and get some integrity to match the skill he has.
Talent? Yes. Respected? Nope. (Just like people feel about Marchand).

I am in Philly and saw a guy with a Pen's hat and Crisby sweater on tonight. With an Eagles back pack on Broad Street.

WTH Philly fans, I expected better from you.

Congratulations to the Cavs. Now 2 of the 4 major trophies live in the rust belt. Not bad for working class folks.
But as I suspected...

Now for the NHL "Silly Season" - what with the draft, free agency, & expansion to another desert belt city. Any of you gents following any of this?

Cheers
JB

Yeah. I was listening to the NHL channel on XM. They were interviewing a player, (forget which one), and he was wondering what would the ice will be like when it's 115F outside.

Pens have a tough, tough decision on their goalie situation. They can't even make a
move until they know what the expansions rules are going to be.

Por_sha911 06-22-2016 11:48 AM

Keeping an eye on it but nothing in stone yet. Heck, they don't even know what they're doing with salary cap this coming year.

My question is why only one team? The east currently has two teams more than the west. You'd think they'd do both at the same time so the teams will only have to deal with this once.

Edit: just read that they just determined the cap for next year.

This seems to be set in stone:

Quote:

Each team is allowed to protect seven forwards, three defenseman and one goaltender (or eight skaters and a goaltender). All other players are exposed to the expansion draft.

...players with no move clauses that include a limited no trade clause must still be protected. That covers players like Pittsburgh’s Marc-Andre Fleury.

They need to trade a goalie or expose Fleury.

Por_sha911 06-22-2016 03:10 PM

They have cap issues so I suspect Murray will stay.

Por_sha911 06-22-2016 05:45 PM

Someone get me a barf bag. Tried watching the NHL awards. Seems like I waded through 20 minutes of trash and commericals to get one award presented. Maybe Wheel of Fortune is on. That's more intelligent.

Buckterrier 04-07-2017 06:39 PM

OK boys the playoffs are dang near set.
Myself... If the Pens can get a few folks back they can repeat.
Washington is and should be the favorites.
Chicago & Columbus getting cold at the wrong time. Minnesota has been cold.
Dark horse... Edmonton/Toronto
What say yens?

1990C4S 04-08-2017 07:04 AM

Toronto? No.

I would never count Chicago out.
