I have to admit, our IT Director has made a couple bone headed decisions over the past 7 years he has been here.

At the Chinese place we liked they had a sign in the bathroom that said "Employees must wash hands!"

I always got tired of waiting for one of them to come in and wash my hands so I did it myself.

No doubt. Another trip there we ordered food and she told us that was too much food, we should order something else. I figure we could take leftovers for the kids but hey, if she wants me to eat healthy...

We haven't been there in a while.

Been a long day, I need more coffee.

So, when you replace a switch and are told to make sure you put the cable from the public router into a specific port for a specific VLAN and you don't and then the enterprise side suddenly goes to crap, would it take you 5 hours to still not figure out what you did wrong?

If I was paid by the hour and needed to build time, sure. Five hours is about right. If it was important to me and I had other things to do, no.

The Chinese place we liked closed down. Apparently paying the IRS the taxes due was just too much of a burden. The IRS does not like that.

You wouldn't make many friends when they are unable to chart properly.

The project was to replace a rack that was no made for the amount of equipment in it and then replace one of the switches while he was at it. This was supposed to start at 1:00am and be done in a couple hours with minimal downtime. Not only did he put the cable from the router in the wrong port, he put several cables in the "public" switch which only has the public VLAN on it and then did not understand why the VoIP phones stopped working. He finally called at 6:20. When I got here all the public rooms were unplugged and everything was in the "enterprise" switch and the "public" switch was powered down. He took notes on everything and took pictures of the connections before the swap.

I should have done it myself I guess.

We have a different Chinese place we usually go to. They have real, hand dipped ice cream.

Mornin', y'all! It's totally overcast here in sunny SoCal. I think the weekend is supposed to see some rain. Sunday, I'm heading up to the San Pedro area to attend this year's Luftgekühlt, and air cooled event put on by Patrick Long. I guess I'll have to endure the horror of my garage queen getting wet.

Phew. 2.2 tons of dirt shoveled and going back for one more load of the same. Our yard will be a lot heavier than before. I hope the property tax is not tied to mass.

I thought it never rains in California.

When I lived there we received over an inch of rain in March during the fair. The other two inches for the year were pretty spread out.

We finally got all of the yard mowed since it stayed dry long enough. Some of the grass was already close to 8" long. Now I need to rake and bale.

The play set is back up again and staked down even more now.

Officially started mine. And it's a beautiful spring day as well

Not off to a good start though. Put some yeast rolls out to rise this morning and forgot about them. They got freakin HUGE! Supposed to just be dinner roll size, but when rising isn't being moniotred they grow to the size of big hamburger buns. About 2 hours too long. Still great rolls (fresh out of the toaster oven is fantastic). But like to bake them when about half that size to use for sliders and sandwich buns. Cooking them earlier makes them a bit denser so they soak up more juiciness.
