The restaurants re-opened to lower capacity restaurants. We went to a local Cajun place and did takeout. 1/2 the tables are gone, and just a big red X marked on the floor to show the space needed between tables. The place had a few customers, and they said the phone was ringing off the hook. I had to call several times to get my order placed. They pile on so much food that even a pig like me has two full meals. My wife sometimes gets 2 or 3 more meals from the leftovers. Good stuff!

Rescued from page 2!
We got up early and played Paul Bunion. Well, we mostly cut back branches and filled up the trashcan. I was going to mow but some moron had the sprinkler set to sprinkle and the yard is all wet. So I will have to wait until tomorrow for it to dry out. It is cloudy and 92% humidity right now, so nothing is going to dry much.

Nobody posting much since lockdown.
Friend drove from across town Friodau and picked up a server from my porch, then took it to the mac shop close to his house. He didn't come in or go into the mac shop. He said he and his wife appreciated a reason to just get out and drive around. I still can't physically drive that far. Not sure how am going to get the server back once it is fixed. They say they are really busy since the Apple stores are still closed. Nephew's boy, Bridge, my lawn guy this year, mowed Saturday. Thinking about getting one of those new iPhone SE's, my 7s is worth $100 and they are only $399.

Yea, it has been quiet on the thread. Bunch of slackers!
My El Camino has a buzz vibration at 75 MPH. Tomorrow I am taking it to a place to have the driveshaft balanced, and "while they are in there" replace the old universal joints. They have well over 150,000 miles and it is silly to put back in old ones. I could pull the driveshaft, but with the scissor lift it is more inconvenient. And once I have it off, I can't balance it, and I can't take it anywhere to be rotated and balanced. I will let them do it all since they are pros. The specialize in 18 wheelers and even construction equipment, but they do have a "light duty" department.

Had to have the rear drive shaft balanced on my GMC Jimmy cause it kept eating U-joints. It was convenient that I could just put it in 4wd and keep goin. Well, after pulling off the drive shaft and plugging the transfer case hole. An aerosol paint can cap fit perfectly. It alway broke the rear u-joint so was able to pull it out of the transfer case and plug the hole.
Think it was as more the angle of lifting it and putting huge tires on rather than just balance. But, balanced the drive shaft anyway.

The new Cayenne had these aftermarket window shades at the front and tops of the drivers and passenger window. They were just held in by pressure. Both broke and falled off. They are $59 to replace. They basically don't make it any quieter to crack the window, but do make it so you can crack the window about an inch and no rain comes in. They are guaranteed for 3 years, so I suspect I would have to spend $59 every three years if decide to add back that feature.
Think they broke because people hit their head on them getting in and out.

The angle of dangle is important, but this vibration comes on at the speed limit on the turnpike. Of course if one goes 75 all the semis and motorhomes go blasting past and are just annoyed at you for going so dang slow.
Having gone through the horrible bad era of the national 55 MPH speed limit it is still surreal to go past a trooper on the side of the road at a speed that would cause a jail stay in the bad old era. There is a plan to raise the speed limit on the turnpike to 85 in the near future. I figure anyone that thinks 55 MPH is a good speed be put in a modern car in Kansas City, MO and told to drive to Denver, CO on I-70. If the speed of the car goes above 56 they will receive a shock like one from an electric fence for a farm. You can drive for hours and hours, and stop and pee, and drive for hours and hours and stop and it is like the twilight zone, everything looks the same as the stop many hours before.

First weekend of 914 ownership in the middle of Arkansas when the speed limit was 55... Passed a 1 mile long row of cars all in the right lane going 55. The 4th car in the line was Arkansas Highway Patrol. The alternator belt broke and was trying to get to Ft Smith before I had to turn the high watts headlights on. I passed him doing 110. My passenger waved at him as we went by. Got 2 miles ahead before i saw his lights come on.
Just kept going because it was dusk and I was 30 miles from Ft Smith. Missed the turn and got off on the next exit. Stopped crossing the bridge to get back on and go back to Ft Smith exit. Waited on the bridge because the 914 did not stick up above the solid bridge railing. Watched the hypo go by lights and sirens. Immediately went the other way and made it into Ft Smith. It was a Sunday after dark in Arkansas. Figured we would have to make it a Porsche dealership the next morning. So got a motel room. Tried to call to let people know and ATT operators were on strike so no collect long distance. Found the sidewalks had been rolled up and no restaurants were open. Went to a grocery store and they would not sell us beer on as Sunday. Stopped at a Amaco gas station to get some cigs and were *****ing about our situation. The clerck overheard us and said he not only had a belt, but it was real easy to put on. He put the belt on, we got out of paying for the room, and drove home. Were kind of antsy till we got into Oklahoma, and ate at a truck stop in OK just across the border. When I got home the pumbing had sprung a leak and had to spend that Monday getting it fixed instead of going back to work. Eventful end to first weekend with my first Porsche.

Moring all. Nice slow weekend. Little rain, little sun just about right. Go to work (dinning room table) to an email telling me I have to do a windows 10 update as mine is not longer supported. Can't possibly wait till we are back at work oh no need to do it asap. Let hope it crashes and will not work.

Mostly I remember the loooong drives from Montgomery, AL to OKC at 55 MPH. I was a total broke cheapskate so I always drove straight through. The worst of the all was the week I moved to OKC. I had quit my job because he would not pay me 12 grand per year. I picked OKC since I had a free place to stay and free meals while looking for a job. I got up early, like 3:00 AM on Saturday, and drive the 900 miles in 16.5 hours to OKC likely pushing the limits to 65 MPH and got in fine. My 914 had no air conditioning, just sweat to cool me off.
I read through the Sunday paper in jobs wanted and on Monday morning July 3rd 1978 I went to the closest place. He handed me a color negative and showed me a darkroom with one enlarger and said go make an 8x10 print. The first test print came out very close to proper color so he said you can print. He handed me a roll of trash film and asked me to load the film on a reel. That was a cinch, and he said show up on Monday and I started at 12K per year. I went and found an apartment for $90 per month that was real close to my job. Paid first and last month rent, utility deposits and got the keys. Tuesday was the 4th of July so I stuck around for the big pick-nick pig out, and left for Montgomery on Wednesday morning. 16.5 hours and rented a little 4x6 trailer, and hooked it to the tow hitch on my 914. I stuffed it full with my belongings. Headed to OKC on Friday morning. In 5th gear I could just get to 55 MPH with the pedal flat to the floor. To go faster I had to run in 4th gear. It was a 20 hour trip with one short nap on the side of the road. I unloaded all my possessions and hauled them up the 14 steps to my crappy apartment in the 108 degree heat. Returned the trailer to U-haul, unpacked everything on Sunday. I was at work on Monday morning. A total of 4 days of unemployment since the 4th was a holiday. It was my longest week ever. I had less than 10 bucks left in my checking or savings account.

The first weekend whan got 914.
Wed night. Shift mount broke off transmission. Mondy. Dumont removed tranny case. Took it to work and a guy heliarc welded the aluminum mount back on the case. Dumont put back on. Early Friday morn. left for Atlanta GA. Got a ticket in Tenn. Was going speed limit. Got pulled over and radar detector did not go off until we were stopped. Was a turist ticket that would not go on my record, GRRR. Order takers at Mcdonalds in Nashville spoke with a funny drawl. Got pulled over on back road in Atlanta for going too slow (looking for brother's neighborhood). Satuday. Drove to family reunion in Morristown Tenn. Uncle told me he hated anything German. He was a cook in the navy in WWII. Spent night in small town motel. With rest of family members, all had rooms. Ran around with cousins. Sunday. Drove home to OKC and had alt belt break. Could not find anyone in Clarksville, AR that would sell me a belt. Would only sell if their mechanic put it on next day. Drove to next town ie Ft Smith and had escapade described above to finish weekend.

My first weekend with my 914 was a LOT more fun that yours. I picked it up at the dealership with 4 miles on it. I brought it back Monday morning at 8:00 AM with 601 miles on it for the initial service. Drain the break in oil in the engine and transmission, adjust the valves and complete inspection. It was the one "free service" I was to receive. After that they saw it for warranty work only. I did all the maintenance.
I knew of some fun roads that brought me to Weogufka, AL. I stopped to get gas at a station I expected to see Goober from Andy Griffith's show. Two little boys about 6 & 7 were sitting on the bench in front and one said to the other, lookie thar, that is a real race car! I just nodded. In 1974 all cars had a seat belt interlock. The car HAD to have the seat belt buckled or the car would not start or even run. It was a crappy idea and crappy installation at Porsche. I could be driving along, hit a big bump like a RR tracks, and the car would die. No cell phones in the 1970s so walk to phone booth, call the dealer have them pick it up and fix it. After the second time I investigated how to bypass it. Again, no internet, just me with an test light and multimeter. I discovered the oil pressure sensor wire was used. I bypassed that and the control box could be removed. The headliner was just glued right to the inside of the roof. Germans make lousy glue. It would sag when it rained. I took the car in, and they discovered they ordered the wrong headliner. So I had to bring it back a few weeks later. That headliner was in great shape when I sold the car.

The weather sucked here all weekend. Sunny and 73* so of course it was perfect for outdoor work. Dad came up to help run some 4x8 sheets of 3/4" MDF through the table saw and helped make a sifter for the river rock in teh front flower bed so the bed could be redone. Then the boy and I loaded teh dump trailer a couple times with dirt to feather the edges of the paver patio we build for the grill. Now I need to replace the grill. I like the grill and it worked well but it needs a new charcoal box since the old one rusted out. If it were just that I would buy the part, but it also needs new handles, legs and firebox door since the wind blew it over a few times. After the first time I staked it and it pulled the stake out. Then I put a big wooden garden fence post and it broke the post. I finally put a regular steel fence post and it is holding, but it is pretty beat up. the new patio will have anchors in the concrete wall to tie both legs to against the wall instead of the open air.
Need to get teh seats back in the Cobra so I can drive it now.

It is HOT and humid today. 94 degree and high humidity is miserable. Tonight a cold front passes through and tomorrow the high is 74 and low humidity. It is the dang Baja Oklahoma air we have now that get pushed back out and the Canadian air is welcome to return in the summer time when it tends to hide up north.

I just went for a short drive in my 911 to double check the A/C and engine oil level. I did have fun on the both curves, and got the engine oil temp up to 200 degrees. Everything is working great. I need to go fill up as I am down to 1/2 a tank and some new fresh gas makes me feel better about having it sit. With no PCA events it has not had much use in recent months.

I saw my across the street neighbors getting a new water heater. They went with a tank-less system so an electrician and a plumber van was there. They they were putting up a new gate for the stockaide fence. So I wonder over and told them I appreciate them helping the small business economy of the area. That spending will help out!
Their house was one of the first in the neighborhood, ours was the last. They said the entire time they lived there the water heater was too small for the family of 5. They had to schedule shower times or running the dishwasher. So after 27 years they are fixing the issue. He works at the State of OK Attorneys General office but he is not a prosecutor. He said so far in the pandemic at least 12 employees of the office have had fraudulent unemployment claims opened in their names. That is not wise to pick on the people that will be prosecuting all the cases state wide. Crooks are usually stupid.

Nephew used to have tankless. Says his house now has an extra pipe that does a slow flow back to the water heater and a valve that flows back to maintain the temp at the faucet. Says it makes for instant hot water faster than tankless. Guess all his hot water lines are part of the tank.

I just dropped off my El Camino at a place to balance the driveshaft and replace the old universal joints. It is a 30 minute drive going 70 most of the way. It is still in North Oklahoma City, just way west. The turnpike goes almost from my house to their building. It is a full 30 miles. It will be nice to get rid of the buzz at 75 MPH. If that does not do it, I am stumped.
