Morning all. At least you can play with yours. I have yet to have time to play with the 911 this year.

With all the tools I have, I will have to go buy some more tools to get the mount off the engine. Just a 15 mm stubby socket. I have several 15 mm sockets, but all are too long to get into the really tight area to get the nut off so I cane remove the engine mount that surrounds the lower pulley. Everything else has been fairly normal and straightforward.
Dang it, I have to buy more tools.

I wonder...
GI Clinic called to rescedule my virtual follow up appointment. Come to find out the doctor is available, but not the nurse that was originally supposed to transfer the virtual meeting to the doctor. There are other nurses. Sounds messed up to me. Also, was in Tulsa several months ago and had my first mini stroke. Went to Tulsa hospital ER. They took my vitals then put me in a wheel chair in a huge crowded waiting room. After 8 hours just sitting in the waiting room for so long decided it must not be life threatening and left then bro drove back to OKC. That hospital keeps sending me a $3000 bill for checking my vitals then putting me in their waiting room for 8 hours. F that. Going to fight paying $3000 for that!

I had a leaking rear seal on the Cobra. I waited until I got the baffled oil pan to replace it because I am lazy that way.

Phew.
I went out at 9:00 AM and just plopped my butt down after a shower and it is 4:00PM. I found the magic tool I needed. It is a ratchet, and a 15 mm short socket. The ratchet is real thin profile, and the socket is a lot shorter than the ones I had. It fit right into position, and off came that bolt. Then the only thing holding the bracket on was the air conditioner bottom bracket. There is one nut that is hidden, and after I loosened it, I could pry and wiggle the engine mount bracket out of place. I spent a while just cleaning up the leaky messy area. I painted the bracket since it was a little paint worn. Tomorrow I get to put in the seal, and the o-ring for the intermediate shaft. It is the ultimate "while yer in there" as the o-ring is a couple of bucks, and it is just two 10 mm bolts that are right in front. It is a 60 second swap after all the other crap is out of the way. It is 97 degrees, 51% humidity, and 113 heat index outside. My garage AC did a pretty good job of keeping me cool. When I went to get tools I took the Elky of course. I left it sitting in the parking area outside. No way was I bringing that massive heat source into the garage. Well, I did after I was done.

Had a leaky front transmission seal. Fixed it when removed motor to drill the piston scraper ring groove holes. 928 drips nuthin now, no spots on garage floor. Somehow don't seem like a real Porsche.
it's good that nothin leaks since I can't drive it. Sure hope it sells on BAT.

The pulley seal leak is the only leak that I had on the 911. The El Camino has a leak on the intake manifold at the front and back. AFTER I put the intake on my new crate engine everyone tells me that to throw away the gaskets for the two ends and just fill the area with sealant. And just like the general knowledge that no one mentioned to me before hand, mine seeps oil. Not much, but enough to make a really messy engine.

Wow, just wow.
Just watched a KnowBe4 webinar on computer security in this work from home environment. Holy cow buckets. They showed hacking wireless networks, using malware to get into computers, then getting passwords to exchange to send malware that comes for someone else at your company. Then they get ssh access to your computer and not only control your computer but disable end point protection for tasks they want to run. Note: Don't save any passwords in Chrome or any other browser! (i don't evem save autofill information in mine). The biggest tip is do not use stupid passwords! And have WP2 encryption on your wifi router with your own admin passwords, no extermal configuration. They say the biggest problem to people working from home is that their home wifi router is set on defaults which allows external config with default admin login/passwords. They can install in a vpn tunnel to log your traffic and get into your company vpn and you don't even know it. Best passwords are complete sentences with caps, spaces, and punctuation that are long to keep password hacking apps from de-hashing them. Or use password software. Having to make a new password all the time makes user create easy to hack passwords.

I am so happy that I am NOT a professional mechanic. Dang I am slow. Everything is back together except the muffler still needs to go back on. I would have bet $50 that I had a muffler gasket in my stock. I would have lots that bet. So today I have to run to a local Porsche repair shop and pick up the one they have, less than 7 bucks.
I wrestled for a long time trying to get the engine mount crossmember bolted back on. The holes on the engine pulley cradle bracket were no aligning with he bar. Then I finally had a Homer Simpson DOH! moment and realized the engine was 2 inches lower than it is supposed to be. So a few pumps of the floor jack, and things went right together. If any of you 911 owners need your pulley seal replaced I am available. 16 hours of labor plus parts. And my labor rate is way higher than the local dealership so budget 3 or 4 grand for me to do it. Of course I do extra stuff like paint the sheet-metal that has to be removed, and I waxed the pulley to get it clean.

I made it downtown to the local long time Porsche repair shop. Started by the dad, that has since died. His son is the mechanic now, and his daughter runs the parts department. I have know Debbi for over 35 years. They did some work on my 914 back in the olden days. He replaced my 1st gear synchronizer.
I have the part, and I am ready to get it put together.

Had to back the Cobra out to get pics for insurance. After not having started it in 18 months it sure made a clatter. I think some of the lifters that were holding the valves open lost some oil.
At least it is all clean now. One of the fuse issues was a bad electric fan on the radiator. Sure sounds good once it is going down the road. High strung small block with stepped headers into 4" side pipes. It isn't as loud as you think unless you are really on it. I need to find a lightweight externally balanced flywheel for it.

Had a graduated exhaust on a 90 944Turbe with 2.8 oversided and 75 turbo. Went from 2.5 stepped up to 5. The muffler was some kind of cheap one used on corvettes. Even with the turbo it was 110db 15 ft behind, even got a ticket. Think cop chased me down from 3 blocks away. Think ended up putting on a flowmaster to get it down to 90db at 10ft.
It would have been a reall nice and quicker car if they had put on a 60 size turbo instead of a 75. With the 75 it didn't start making boost until over 4000rmp. It did crank up to 408rwhp. The 60 would have made more since the boost would have started around 2800rmp and easier to drive because it would not have hit so hard at higher rpm. Oh well, don't matter now since i can no longer drive a stick. and since doc bills can't afford a PDK. Sure hope the 928 sells for good price. Saw a 31K miles arrest me red 95 is selling for 165K. Prices seem to be still going up and not down on the 928's in excellent condition like mine.

Wow, what long day.
The boss's wife rousted me out of bed at 6:30 so we could shower and get to Sam's for a early morning fruit run, and that went just like clockwork. Then I made the part run mentioned in the post 153789 above. Then I waited for a little while to go get a haircut that Mrs. Carrera said was not to be put off under penalty of (undesclosed) so I for sure got the haircut at 11:00 AM. It had been overcast all morning, and when the very light breeze blew it actually felt comfortable outside. So I had a change of plans, I "got" to mow and edge the yard. Oh joy. It was not blazing hot, and that opportunity was not to be missed. Then I finally got back to my 911. Day three, the muffler gasket is in hand. I can attest that is is chore for an old fat guy to bench press the muffler up into position with one hand, and try to get the three bolts on, and not have the gasket drop out. I finally got the top bolt in place and I could get the muffler to stay in position resting on the little crease on the bracket. Then getting the two muffler mounting bands around the muffler, and around the bracket support and tightened up was a just not working. ![]() I looked at the heat exchanger blend tube that takes the fan next to the cruise control and blows air into the heat exchangers. So now I get to get a welder to tig weld up the stainless steel bracket. It might stay in place for a while, but one way or the other, it needs to be fixed. Might as well do it while I am in there. That part that is cracked goes under the band that goes around the muffler. It has to be strong. Maybe tomorrow!

Nope, "racing parts"!
It is the "free" mat they give out when one buys all their rod bolts, and case studs and hear studs. That is what in in my 911 engine. Today I got to have a normal morning. Get up at normal time, showered and dressed in my shorts and polo shirt. I want to get the part welded, and he is supposed to call me. The dealership is having motors in the morning tomorrow. I will be driving it to that even if the heater is non functional. I am real sure the heater is not a needed item in July in Oklahoma. It will not take long to put that heater tube in place once it is strong again.

Welp. Got my unemployment debit card. It only has one week of unemployment on it! It has been 10 weeks. Online it shows my claim as closed. Been waiting 2 hours on the phone to try to talk to a person to see what is going on. I am supposed to have enough $$ approved for 28 weeks! And there is supposed to be an additional $600/week because of covid for those 10 weeks as well.
It is a good thing when I saw and heard it was slow going I withdrew some money from my 401K.
