Here in the midwest..
Steak'N'Shake around here have somewhat lessor burger patties by volume but: -they taste like meat burger oughta, -prices are well below all other fast fast food joints, -I am stuffed after a ~$5 coupon meal with 1950s ambiance, friendly prompt service, and a return to customer satisfaction. -good experience, every time, so far. I do not type praise lightly but that ypsi store earns it. |

Most people make the mistake of over grilling thier meat. We have friends that like all of their steaks/chops/burgers/dogs almost burnt, and void of any moisture or juices. I, on the other hand really like to grill just to the point of safety (temperature wise), and prefer a pink tinge in my burger, and steaks that sre almost rare....so much better taste.
Many times, I will sacrife one chop, or burger for myself by cutting it open to see the inside, and making sure it isn't overdone. |

May I suggest the Thermapen thermometer by Thermoworks.
Most accurate and fast thermometer I have found. My original one is 6 years old and still bang on accurate and have purchased many as gifts for others. Have another that is back lit for winter use. Saves you from cutting open anything on the grille and can measure accurate temps in thin cuts and fillets. Used it last night on my planked salmon but that is another thread altogether! I use a mixture of beef and pork and form them into patties, freezing the extras on a cookie sheet then use the foodsaver to vacuum seal them for future use in packs of two. Yum, love a good burger!

Nope. In-N-Out is not that special. By the time you get through the line, and get your food, either you're full on soda, or if you drove the drive-through, then you get a soggy burger. If they moved the lines faster, then they'd be a viable alternative to McDonald's or Burger King. For the investment of time, you might as well go to The Habit, or Farmer Boys or Five Guys.
Their concept is totally outdated, and usually I just look at the slow, not moving line and I'm already over it. |

The herd panic sets in, and they are determined to follow with the crowd. -Freeway left lane clusters while the rest of the road is completely empty. -That person standing uncomfortably close for no apparent reason. Or rather beat the crowd by participating with the latest "IN thing": -Economy is taking a slump, stocks are at 25% of peak, what a great time to sell and lose most of our money. -Look at the line outside that bar/club. Everyone is standing out in the freezing rain. Must be an important place. Let's go join them and suffer also. -Black Friday. Krispy Kreeme. Etc. Last edited by john70t; 07-29-2017 at 02:00 PM.. |

I have a Wayback Burger near me that for a faster food type burger is really quite good. Apparently it is a chain, but I have never seen another.
Just went to Fuddruckers today, we just have one left in MN and they make a pretty good burger as well.

There used to be a Fuddruckers close to me (now closed), not far from a Steak 'n Shake...I like both OK. The best local chain is one called Cook Out...pretty decent too, but the local non-chains beat 'em easily....

For those of you that have some cooking skills, and think that eating an In-and-Out burger is like chewing on a cat turd, I've got a recipe for you.
Slice some red onion fairly thin, bring some pickling liquid to a boil, add the red onion and let it steep until cool. Google how to pickle things, if you've never done that. Make an aioli with mayonnaise and garlic, then add some chipotle seasoning. You can use chipotle powder or real chipotles in adobo. Add a little cayenne powder for extra heat. Let this go hang out in the fridge for a few hours to get happy. Grill a jalapeño pepper and slice it thin. Make a nice sized (8-10 oz) burger patty out of some good beef. You want an 80:20 lean to fat ratio. Season it fairly aggressively with sea salt and pepper. Grill it over charcoal until it's about medium rare. When you grill the second side, layer the jalapeño slices on top and top with a couple thick slices of jack or jalapeño jack cheese. Take a nice quality bun, not a grocery store hamburger bun, but decent bread. Cut it in half and lather it generously with the aioli. Add a fair amount of arugula to the bottom bun. Add the meat patty, then top it with the red onions, some cilantro and the top bun. If you make this right, it will be a religious experience when you eat it. If you don't make it right, keep at it until you figure it out and have your religious experience. JR Last edited by javadog; 08-03-2017 at 02:17 PM.. |

I really like me a double double, but I don't care for their fries at all.
Never thought of dousing them with cheeeze sauce, is that some secret not on the menu thing? |

I will say again the best burger I have ever eaten was at council rock brewery in Cooperstown ny.
It was delicious because the beef itself was holy **** good and the bun was fantastic as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Best burger in Houston used to be Rockwells. They lost their lease and are closed now. The food had to be incredible, because the service was SO FREAKING BAD.
I would say the best Burger in Houston is a toss up between Bernies burger bus and the Petrol Station.

I like Red Robin, the fries suck, but they make a good burger.
