Price Guidance - 73.5 911T Survivor

I purchased this 73.5 911T Sunroof coupe from the estate of the original owner 2 years ago. The car appears to be all original including paint, 85K miles. The car sat parked in a garage for 30 plus years. The car cleaned up nicely. Paint buffed out really nice, original leather seats are extremely nice (one tear at one seam), the dash is perfect, headliner soiled somewhat but original. Will need a carpet kit as the floor mats front and back are missing. I hooked power to it and all electricals are working properly including original radio, power sunroof, all lights, AC blower, and even the clock. Engine turns over by hand but I didn't dare attempt to hit the starter. The car is complete with jack, original tool roll, and owners manuals. It even has the antenna keys and radio manuals. My next step was to send it off for mechanical restoration and repair of several rust bubble areas and paint blending. It will also need a new tag panel as the garage leaked and rusted the panel. I removed it and confirmed that the rust was limited to the tag panel only. I realize this phase represents a potential major investment. Hoping for a simple engine reseal, CIS rebuild, brakes but who knows what might be entailed. It was my intent to do the work and keep it and enjoy but given past experience I usually complete and then move onto something else. With that said, I wanted to get an idea of current market value as it sits. I may sell, I may not..... just evaluating options at this point.
I posted for input when I purchased the car. Just wanted to see where things stood in the current market.

Range $65,000 to $80,000 depending upon finish.

The car is very well equipped.

Towards the upper end of that ^ range once the engine is cleaned up and operating without leaks, etc. As Mac says, the paint being original and in good shape is the main variable, once the mechanicals are sorted.

One last thought--I'd try to find the missing carpet pieces to match, rather than buying a new kit.

Nice car!

Thanks for the input. Now I feel more motivated to get it finished and on the road. As far as the rust, it is minimal. there was bubbling around the rear tail lights and as mentioned the tag panel was trashed. I removed the taillights and fortunately the rust was minimal and appears to be a very easy fix. Great suggestion on the carpet. I will see if I can source some used original mats and keep the original carpet in place. On another note, I have been in discussion with CarparcUSA out of the Los Angeles area. Looks like I will be shipping the car out to them for the mechanical work as well as the body repairs and paint blending. I tried finding someone closer to my area (Mississippi) to do the work but they were either reluctant when it came to the CIS or just nonresponsive in general. Anyone have any experience with CarparcUSA?

CarpacUsa is a respected shop. Again, the car already looks great. IMO, a Carpac restoration would take the car into a six figure stratosphere.

I first would find a local independent Pcar shop, consult local Pelicans or PCA, reactivate the car mechanically; suspension, brakes and engine. Then complete a sympathetic restoration of the rust areas and interior allowing the car to continue as a survivor. This probably could be completed very cost effective.

Thanks for the input Macroni. I have had great difficulty in finding anyone within a 500 mile radius (Atlanta area, New Orleans area, Dallas, Houston, etc.) who is comfortable with the CIS/etc. I have had several conversations with Henk at CarparcUSA and he seems to have a good grasp on everything entailed in getting it in top notch mechanical condition while at the same time maintaining originality/ survivor status. He too recommended sourcing used carpet pieces to keep it original and his shop seems to be a "one stop shop" for getting all this work completed. It is critical to me that the rust repair/paint blending be done to an exceptional level as 90 percent of the original paint is exceptional for its age. CarParcUsa seems to be capable of this. The thought of flying out to LA and then driving the car 2,000 miles cross country is just icing on the cake.

My .02¢: get rid of the a/c first and foremost. It is heavy, it works very poorly and will cost a lot to restore - and still work poorly after that, and it takes away horse power from the engine. The second thing to go would be the front bumper overriders. Porsche's quick fix answer to the DOT requirement to minimize damage and cost for accidents which occur under 5mph was to add a few heavy clumps of rubber that jut out like boat docking buoys....

Oh, and almost forgot. Very nice car...

Would not do a full restoration....original paint cars have greater value especially when buffed out.
Can be done to a great level of shine .
Repairs to minor surface rust can be fixed and blended.
AC is a valuable option especially if you can get info on COA.
Seems like a great car that needs to be cleaned and highly detailed .
The bumpers are an original detail , let the next owner change if they like.

Carpac is a great organization

+1 for Henk and Carparc. He is the “early 911 specialist”. Would recommend with zero reservations. Best of luck.

I agree with blau911. When new the AC sucked especially if you lived in the southern states. The new Griffiths AC systems work great. One of the first things new owners of the 1973 models would do was to remove those impact bumpers.
Try to get the engine running yourself, see what works, there's a lot of CIS posts on this site that will get you headed in the right direction.

While Carparc would be fine for the body and paint "restoration" work, I'd send the car for mechanical work to either Scott Hendry at Scott's Independent, or Marco with TLG "first" and then to Henk after the mechanical is sorted.

Just a couple of options to look at imho.... I know all 3 of them very well.

TLG:

Scotts Independent, Scott Hendry. Since 1974....
1885 S. Santa Cruz St.Anaheim, CA 92805

I'd keep the bumper rubber, it's original. Let somebody else decide on that.

I wouldn’t ship it to California. You have Goldcrest, Graham Everett and Franz Blam all near Atlanta. You have Mayo, Rennsport Porsche Workshop and Jones Autowerks all in Texas. Any one of them can sort the cis and all mechanicals.

Yes. I forgot about John and his crew. Yes, they are good mechanics as well.

Agreed. Mayo and Jones can sort whatever you need and likely do so blindfolded. No need to send to California.

Nice find. If it was me, I would get it running, fix want ever it needs to be reliable and safe. Address any rust issues as they tend to grow. Unless you have a giant budget, a full resto will have you upside down quickly.

FWIW your AC in not "factory" but an aftermarket install.

Yup, a farmed out full resto isn't advisable since that would simply dig it deeper.

Fix up the CIS and drive it.
