There's hope for you yet, bro!
BTW - Paul is slacking - I woulda' thunk that he would have seized the opportunity to post a pic of his Garretson-superior, ginormous, better than Viagra intercooler . . . could pull from the 20+ other pictures that he's posted of it, tha' gloating (or is that "goating" ?!?!) beech! |

So now we are posting idle videos??? Guess I'll join in - a tad rich with the current heat.
Considering swapping out the hooligan for an outlaw over the winter. |

The car lives! And although there are the expected teething problems, overall things are going much smoother in the tuning department than I'd expected. Given the car hasn’t been tuned beyond a “finger in the air” conservative ignition map, and using an AFR to dial in the Leask, I’m impressed.
The positives:
And now, the Negatives:
So the jury is still out 48 hours before departure for Rennsport. If we can sort out the above issues, the 930 will go. If not, the ‘66 will get another return trip to Monterey instead. We'll keep banging trying to get the turbo road worthy. Stay tuned... ![]()

Kenik - you are making progress! When you talk about registering boost - are you using an analog boost gauge or the crap factory gauge on the tach?

Also this may be a stupid question but did you check the torque on bolts on the cold side before the turbo was installed?

Crap factory, but even the factory gauge doesn't register a zero at 5000 RPM. But I will check the data logs, too. Butt dyno confirms the boost leak, as well.

2600 miles later, I can report that the 930 stayed home. It was close, but no cigar.

Boost leak problem solved. Minor setup issue with the solenoid was leaving the WG open, as I'd guessed. Haven't driven it yet, since the turbo is back out of the car to address the oil leak.
The good news is that the cause of the leak seems to have been identified. Just waiting for a new oil feed tube to arrive and we should be ready for another crack at it! I'm going to start out road tuning, via the data logging. Once I think I have it perfect, we'll move onto the dyno for final tuning. The fewer pulls I have to pay for, the better.

Kenik,
Congrats on the progress - I'm sure the wait will be worth it. Phil |

Too bad about the car not being ready for RS Kenik, but it looks like it's getting there! So a leaky oil supply tube (different than tube leaks that Paul is familiar with), eh?

You know it is getting close when you start focusing on whack-ass details and BS.
First, what's not whack-ass is getting the big IC to fit right under the decklid. We took a stock IC up-pipe, cut it up and have mocked up a new up-pipe that will be welded in a configuration that will work. I'll get some pics on this ASAP, but it seems the intercooler conundrum is almost resolved! Back to the whack-ass BS and there's nothing more whack-ass than electrical gremlins. These gremlins are so whack, I had to call in the services of a local auto electrical genius. So far, he's resolved the following previous non-op issues:
Other stuff that was more mundane, but is now done:
So with a fully rebuilt engine and transmission, fully sorted electrical system and other mechanicals, this will officially be the ugliest, most mechanically sound 930 on the planet. ETA for completion is now EOD Monday. Fingers crossed.
