Congrats on ticking over the 10,000 view mark Rick. Only the Dude's 911T thread is ahead of you now, lol.
Yep, just can't justify using 911 build money on air conditioning the garage

10,000 and still 2nd place...we can't have that!

I'll try to post up a pic of my custom headers soon. That will get the ticker going

Custom headers being fabricated now

Here's what my headers are gonna look like with a split phleum T4 flange for a true twin scroll turbo setup. This setup should help bring the power on MUCH quicker then single scroll setup would

New 3.6L Conversion Flywheel

My electronics expert suggested that we use the 3.6L flywheel so we could take advantage of the large 60-2 trigger wheel and use more dependable OEM/Bosch type sensor with the stock 964 sensor location. My case has the 2 holes for the stock sensor mount, so my tranny expert will notch the bell housing for a nice fit. Scott over at Patrick Motorsports has also set me up with a 600 ft-lb pressure plate and a SACHS clutch disk to hold the new torque. I sent him my ring gear so he can computer balance the whole clutch/flywheel assembly.

I can relate to the heat and humidity misery, I'm over in West Palm.

I would ignore the homeowners association and pick up an 8000BTU GE window unit from Brandsmart for ~ $160 and put it in the window farthest from the window shaker police.
8000 BTU won't chill the average garage but they are cheap and not too noisy for the neighbors and will really help maintain sanity while working in the garage the next few months.

Walmart.com also has them for a little more $ and they will deliver it to you for a buck.

I would suggest zero-balancing each component separately. Crank, pressure plate, flywheel, clutch disc. That way if you need to replace one of those clutch components you do not need to tear the whole engine down to send the crank in with it for balancing.

I agree with Flieger, and don't think you want to have to rebalance everything when a disposable clutch disc needs replacing.

Did you get the KEP stage 1 or Stage 2 pressure plate from Patrick Racing? I hear lots of good things about the KEP stage 1 pressure plate with the standard spring center Sachs 930 clutch disc for steet use.
Stage 1 Pedal feel is said to be only a little heaveir than a stock Sachs PP and holds alot more torque.

The aluminum/steel KEP PP can be sent back to Kennedy engineering and rebuilt and it weighs around 12 pounds less than the cast iron/steel Sachs PP so your motor will rev up a little quicker with it.
I think they rebalance the aluminum basket after replacing the steel diaphram finger spring, straps, rivets, and friction plate.

Agreed, the balancing of the Flywheel, clutch and pressure plate assembly are being done separately cuz the crank has already been done.

Yes, I think it is the lighter aluminum PP but not sure if it's stg 1 or 2...

Don't you guys think Patrick Motorsports knows what they're doing with that megabuck balancing machine. I have seen it and it is truly impressive.

You don't balance the clutch disk in this instance because it spins independently of the flywheel/pressure plate assembly. The crank is already balanced but offers the best method for supporting the assembly for balancing.

Painted again this weekend

Put a final coat of red paint on the engine shroud and cleaned up and painted the cold air intake pipe.

Yep, you put a real nice paint job on them and they were made in Italy, so they are keepers

Well I guess if you balanced the crank first and then bolted on the flywheel and balanced that next and then the pressure plate and so on........ I don't see why it would be a problem.

while waiting for studs

Since I'm waiting for more engine parts I decided to change out the rear emergency brake shoes. As you can see in the pic it looks like they were 24 years old

They are a real pain I think I'd rather change out 20 sets of front pads as opposed to doing one set of shoes! Also received the new rear shocks from out host. They will go in tonight

$110 for Starter
$149 for Alternator

The starter was missing some bushings, so that may be the reason the old ring gear took a hit

Not bad, that's about what I paid over a decade ago when I had the alternator rebuilt then.

The starter was also a rebuild from around 2003, but the missing teeth on the old ring gear is what broke the starter bushings a few months after I installed it.

Having to drop the motor to change the ring gear is what got my whole "while I'm in there" project started, lol.

Cleaning up some studs

instead of tossing engine studs with damaged threads I put them it a collet in a vise and took a die to them...now they are as good as new
