My local dealership said they could order it for me, but when they tried, they were told it was on indefinate backorder. If there is any left in the pipeline, it's old stock and worth grabbing. I wish I would have kept some for my self for the future.

I can get ya some fantastic CI oils that do not conform to CJ specs - still have a high ZPPD and TBN.

I think I'll just order a few cases of Brad Penn oil and be done with it.

For you diesel oil guys I noted the low emission Chevron Delo 400 maintains a CI-4/SL rating and hence the higher zinc levels (.13). Maybe a good substitute if you have been using Rotella. Very easy to find.

The Chevron Delo LE is not CI-4, it is CJ-4. Right off the delo website:

Chevron Delo® 400 LE (API CJ-4) - Available in U.S. & Canada. This quality engine oil exceeds industry and engine manufacturers' performance requirements. It is formulated using the most advanced additive technology available to provide outstanding engine protection for 2007 EPA exhaust particulate emissions standards for on highway diesel trucks that use Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD).

They do sell a CI-4, but apparently, not anymore in the US. Anything floating around is old stock. I have had many people email me to tell me they cannot locate anything but the CJ-4 version.

Having been to 3 local autoparts stores in the last couple days, I can vouch that Chevron Delo (at least what I could find in all 3 shops) is now the newer CJ-4 stuff. I think I went through just about every jug to check. So is most of the Rotella T, the newer stuff.

However, the last shop I visited (interestingly in the least nice/most ethnic part of town, complete with homeless guys in the parking lot) had 3 jugs of old Rotella T syn left. Perfect amount for an oil change. So, obviously, that was my choice.

Additionally, I couldn't find any of the red bottled STP 4-cylinder oil treatment in any of the 3 shops; only the blue bottled stuff. So adding a bottle to one of the newer oil formulations wasn't an option.

Thanks for all your hard work, Charles.

SoCal guys can check out http://www.sawyerpetroleum.com/ . They have a few locations and can order specific Shell (and a few other) products. They will sell to everyone and the cash prices are not bad.

Yes, it looks like I have been buying the older blend of Delo which is still available here.

But, this is from the data sheet dated 2/07 from the Chevron website. "This product is recommeded for use in older engines, as well as today's most modern low emmision designs."

SAE grade 15W-40
API service category CJ-4/SL and others.
Sulfated Ash wt% 1.0
Phosphorus wt% .12
Sulfur wt% .32
Zinc wt% .13

Charles, what do you think based on the above?

Thanks for you input.

Thanks for all your hard work, Charles.
The Lowes Grocery supermarket in my town has the Blue & Red bottle STP oil treatment on the shelves.

So here's my theory.

Delo 400 Synthetic is CI-4 and CI-4+ whereas delo 400 Dino Oil is CJ-4...

Yesterday I ordered 10 bottles of red STP 4 cyl treatment from Amazon. $ 2.98 / bottle. When I emailed STP about finding it they said it wasn't available in my area and I should try the internet.

That datasheet must be wrong. It cannot have more than .10% P to be CJ-4, but it's clearly different from the #s I have for the CI-4 delo (posted on my website), so I'm thoroughly confused. :-)

Marketing and technical at Chevron need to get together and talk to one another!

Charles, I have 14 pints of EOS on the shelf. I'd like to keep at least 6, so if you want 8 I'll sell them to you at what I paid. Sending you a PM.

I think I will go pick up the remaining 4 bottles at the local dealer....and check on ordering a case. Is anyone interested in buying the case from me if in fact EOS is available in Canada?

I have an older batch dated 7/2004 of Delo 400 "ISO SYN" oil 15w-40 and it meets CI-4. I do believe it uses ISO SYN technology but is a "non" synthetic oil.

Anyway, I used this oil in my 126 380 SE Mercedes since a lot of people had great results with the oil.

I plan on buying a 1987 Carrera next week and have about 12 quarts of Delo 400 that is CI-4 approved dino oil.
Would you guys use it since it's the non synthetic version
