Morning all. The RDX is back, my wallet is lighter but it blows cold air. Half day for me as I need to get one of the boys to a music lesson at 11.

So did getting you AC fixed cost less than getting my brakes half fixed and the lights working?

The pedal is still a little spongy. Probably needs the brake juice renewed after replacing the booster vacuum line. Feel like I'm trying to do an episode of Wheeler Dealer on this new to me Cayenne.

Going to have to take the shifter apart. It feels stiff and won't go into manual. Looking up the problem there is probably a coin lodged in the shift gate somewhere. Also there is no jack or tools! Somebody told me to go test drive one and replace my tools before returning it.

Sure wished our Porsche salvage yard, Oklahoma Foreign hadn't gone out of business. It was nice having the biggest Rover salvage yard in the USA here in OKC when fixin up that old Rover. Oklahoma Foreign was the same way with Porsches. They were offered a bunch of money for the land they were using and decided to take the money and shut it down. Same thing is happening to one of OKC's oldest drive-ins. It's a shame they had real charcoaled burgers and great onion rings.

Eke, that was more than my first fixit trip with the Turbo Pig. But have have more trips scheduled!

Talked to the upholstery shop and he is looking for the right material to put in a new headliner, quote was $200. It would cost me at least half that for just the materials.

Ouch.

That is part of why I do my own work. Of course I have a ton of money invested in tools, a lift, heat and AC in the garage and all the rest of the stuff needed to do my work. It has taken me 40 year to collect my tools. More than a few times I have been at a point to ask myself "Why the fcuk am I doing this"

In the end, as a hobby that is way cheaper than golf, boats and fishing, airplanes and a ton of other activities I could be doing. Much like mowing the yard I get instant gratification and a sense of pride to look at the finished project.

I really enjoyed the learning experience of doing the 911 AC upgrade. The end results were fantastic. Even more so then the complete rebuild of the suspension on the 911.

If I was a professional mechanic I would have to charge 5 times the going rate to make any money. I am super slow. Mostly because I always find some other little item that needs attention, and that leads to something else.

Owning high mileage cars from the mid 1980s is one reason I am never bored at home.

Went a spent the money on a Durametric ODBII code reader for the Cayenne. That way I can find a fix a lot of this stuff myself. Guess all I will need next is the workshop manuals that tell me the easiest way to get to stuff and how things come apart and go back together without breaking 3 working things to get to the one that needs attention.

Hola' y'all. Another landscaper is coming over to eyeball our backyard and see how much they can soak me for. Maybe, by this time next week, we can pick a company to make our backyard less of an eyesore.

Another reason I drive old simple cars. They are easy to work on and have very basic rudimentary single purpose computers. I can disconnect the battery and the only thing I have to reset is the clock and the stereo on the 911. Only the stereo on the 911.

I learned early on in the owning of the 911 I do not have the mechanical skills required to really work on one. I can draw all sorts of pictures of mechanical parts but make of fix them nope not going to happen.

My Dad always told me...

If paying someone else to do something costs less than can be made doing something else, pay someone else and do something else.

My 31 year old 911 is pretty simple unless you crack into the transmission or the engine. I do konw my limits.

I remember when I first started looking at the suspension threads I was amazed that ordinary non professional mechanics were doing it. Guys that were just office workers or dentists and CPAs. They rush home from work to get dirty and after reading a ton of those threads I figured if they can do it I can do it.

I remember some near panic when I walked out into my garage and saw my 911 sitting there on jack stands with no front suspension of any sort. No steering rack, just the steering wheel shaft going into the trunk and stopping at the u-joint. I got it back together with no issues at all. Easy peazy.

The AC upgrade was even easier. Of course Griffiths writes the best instructions on the planet. Just follow his step by step instructions and he provides every single part needed except the refrigerant.
