Morning all. I think I'm about to be car poor. Two for me, one for the wife and one for each kid. This is assuming the 15 year old learns to drive.

Well, it's is morning here, I think. It just looks grey outside.

Hey, I have 3 vehicles...er uh...3 Porsches even. But no motorcycles, scooters, Boats, or Planes. Haven't had 3 vehicles since I started college. Had a bicycle then too, but don't have one now.

It'll be the insurance that makes you poor David!

My son is 12.75 so I have a few years before he can learn to drive. I keep my eyes open to potential first cars for him as I'm out. I'm hoping that we can find one that needs some work and will work on it together so he learns how to do repairs. I don't care if the body is perfect but I want the mechanicals to be safe.

My daughter, on the other hand, wants a hot rod for her first car. Wonderful.

You kinda have three cars. Hopefully by now you have the title to the Turbo. The 928 is still held hostage and the excuses are about like from the body shop holding my Elky hostage. The Cayenne S is the one for sure until you sell it off. I sure would not let him have it until the 928 is delivered and running right.

Pepper Update.

Pepper greeted me this morning by saying "Good Morning." Then said, "I want out."

Went to let her back in and noticed it was not only grey out, but is sprinkling.
When Pepper comes in she sits and says, "Hello."
Have been working on this for greeting so she doesn't go so puppy nutso around new people.

This morning she sat and said hello, then instead of bounding off to get a drink of water as usual held her paw out like to shake.
Grabbed the towel I keep next to the back door and said, "Let's wipe her feet."
With lots of "Good Girl"s She presented each of her front paws, then stood up, turned around and let me wipe off her rear paws as well. Then dried her off, the part she really likes.

Had to give her a treat for being such a good dog this morning.

Instead of carrying treats around after she does several things correctly I tell her she was a good girl and deserves a treat and we go to the kitchen to her treat bowl. She prances all the way there, happy as a lark. When I get a treat out of the bowl I say do you want it. She answers saying, "I want it."

When I fill her water bowl while I'm standing at the sink with her bowl filling I ask her if she wants a drink of water, and have got her saying, "Drink of water." Twice now she has come to me and said, "Drink of water" when her water bowl is empty.

So happy that Pepper hasn't discovered the toilet has water in it. Neighbor told me his Dalmatian, Dotty drinks out of the toilet in their guest bathroom. Said they tried to stop her from doing it but just gave up and keep the guest bathroom toilet clean as her water bowl. Said it's kind of embarrassing to ask guests to use the toilet in their master bedroom because the toilet in the guest bathroom is the dogs water bowl.

Yep, got the title for the Turbo, registered it, and got the tag Wednesday. It's officially all mine.

Now I'm trying to find someone that will cut the keys on the 2 remotes the guy sent me so I can program them to the car.
When you order new keys from Porsche they come already cut. Then you enter a special code for the car, and insert each key to program it to the car.
So the keys have to be cut to program them to the car.
The blades on the remotes he sent were blank which means he probably got them off ebay for $100 instead of the $300 Porsche charges.

My old Doberman preferred the toilet bowl to the water bowl. In the summer I had a water bowl that was hooked up to the water supply and it would refill automatically.

When I had women come spend time at my house I told them to put the seat up or when the dog gets a drink she slobbers on the seat. Our dogs are way too short to get a drink from a toilet. If they are in the yard they will drink from the Koi pond.

When I was in college dated a girl who drove a pinto. Her dad was a sheriff and put a governor on it so I wouldn't go over 40mph to try to keep her from leaving town. It didn't work. All it did was put her in a dangerous position on the roads no able to go over 40mph. Especially in a PINTO!

Friend a work and his son did the father and son car thing. They did an old Firebird convertible. Made it a really nice hot rod with every option. It was really really nice. They did a fantastic job completely rebuilding the whole car including painting it themselves and doing the upholstery. About 2 months after they finished it his son sold it and got a cheap old beat up Chevy Chevette.

The norm that I have seen is the kids that earned the money to buy their own cars took much better care of them and the kids who's parents gave them cars usually ended up totaling the cars. There are exceptions to every rule, but has just been my observation. My Dad helped me. I had to pay for them, but he made it easy for me to earn the money (as long as I was willing to work) AND helped me get a good deal. Still ended up having two wrecks in my first car. One was not my fault, the girl came from a side street across three lanes onto a main 4 lane street to broad side me and I was in traffic with no place to go to get out of her way. The other I hit a parked car driving down a residential street at night because I was distracted by a woman dancing naked on her front porch.

My mother in law gave us a Rogue for our daughter. She is only 14 so my wife drives it instead of the Durango. It gets a little better mileage.

I get the pentastar powered Avenger and the Cobra. Would have brought the Cobra to work but I was running behind and it needs gas.

I hear you can get some little 4 cylinder powered hot rods. Ariel Atom comes to mind!

a Pinto with a big block....hmmmm

Whatever she gets I know she will take care of it. My son? eh. He wants to be a hillbilly so I would imagine he will want some sort of pickup which is fine as long as it's safe.

I can bet you dollars to donuts it will NOT be washed very often. He just doesn't get the car guy thing.

Either way, even 10 year old vehicles are better than the ones we had to select from when I started driving. Around here, $2000 will get you a decent Domestic that might just need a little work.

My dad "gave" me a interest free LOAN and he paid for the insurance for my first car. I had to pay for 100% of everything else for the car. I guess he did give me free room and board and mom's home cooking.

I paid him back in just 20 months. Then I bought my first new car. A 1973 Super Beetle that I paid off in 12 months.

Our daughter isn't that picky, maybe because the Cobra is there to drive but our son wants a yellow Jeep Wrangler Unlimited in yellow with a matching yellow freedom top. Sahara or Rubicon trim level.

Something to suck up lots of gasoline. I bet after a few $50 or $60 tanks of gas per week he might want something cheaper to drive.

No, what he will do is say "Dad, can I take the car? You can drive the Jeep!"

At least he knows exactly what he wants. Good thing he has years to save up.

Let's see, didn't really care if I even had a car. Hung with friends that always wanted to drive their hot rods anyway.

Got the Ford Station wagon for $1.00 plus fixing the transmission and liked it cause I could haul my lawn mowing stuff in it and pull our trailer. And was a great party wagon for me and all my friends. Including the ones with hot rods.

Then decided I wanted a car instead of just the old ratty wagon and got the 71 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus for $1400. One of my Mom's friends heard about me looking for a car and a couple of months after I got the Satellite was offered her older daughters 71 Audi 100LS in really great shape for $1000. Went ahead and bought it because it was just such a good deal!

Since I had 3 cars, the wagon, the Satellite, and the Audi my Dad asked if I would give my oldest brother the wagon because his van died and he didn't have a car. (He still has the van and it still doesn't run). Decided he could have my $1.00 wagon. Had most of my yards well under control and could put my mower and edger in the trunks of either the Satellite or the Audi just as easily as the wagon.

The next summer I got more yards and was really getting tired of loading and unloading the lawn stuff so found a 64 Ford Econoline van for $400, and I got him to throw in a set of nearly new tires I put on the Audi. The van didn't have any back seats so could just use it like a mobile shed for all my lawn equipment.

So basically had a hot rod/sports car, 4 door sedan/date car, and work truck/van. Drove whichever depending on what I was doing and whom I was doing it with. Some people never saw me in anything but the Satellite, some the Audi, and almost nobody even knew I had the van. Even my roommate at college who's parents lived 2 blocks away from my parents was surprised as heck when I showed up in my van to load up our stuff to move to college. He had told me he couldn't fit everything in his car and wondered if I had some room left in mine so he only had to make one trip. Told him no problem.

I was about 23 before I ever borrowed one of my parents cars. I had just over 50,000 miles on my 914 and the bearing in the transmission started making bad noises. I pulled the transmission out and borrowed dad's car to drive the transmission to Birmingham.to a mechanic to rebuild the 901 transmission. He got it apart and said the bearing had a manufacturing defect and he had never seen one go bad so soon on a 95 HP car. It was not uncommon on a Porsche with higher HP for that bearing to go bad.

I was at the driver's license place the very first day I was eligible. It was a Tuesday on my birthday that year.

When was old enough to get my license the girl I was going out with already had a car so really didn't matter to me. Really helps the confidence when she takes you parking.
