9GB was AFTER compression!
It was the HR Director that tried to fire me, lying to make me look bad.

When I was in charge of the internet firewall someone complained that the saw a coworker surfing porn. My nephew the CEO had me do a report on the sites the different computers were hitting and when. The idea was we could establish a pattern allowing us to catch this person. Instead we were totally shocked by the sites most "Christian" managers were accessing from work computers and how much time they were spending. Instead of trying to catch one person, he had me start daily going thru and adding to the block list.

If you tried to hit a blocked site you got this...

The surf monkey determined the site you requested has inappropriate content.
If you feel the surf monkey made a mistake, contact Richard and he we
see if we can get that monkey off your back.

Interesting, NOBODY ever contacted me about running into the surf monkey. And I know they did, I saw the logs every day.

They never delete their email. Easy to let it pile up.

Had to teach my brother to separate messages out by year. If you get over 7000 message in a folder in Outlook on a Mac, it starts doing weird things like randomly not displaying any new emails.

Hey TGIF everyone.

Apple is the largest company in the world by market cap. We are second. and closing the gap pretty damn quickly!

Also how do you let inboxes get that big? We are capped at like 2gb, and you have to have serious justification to request more storage.

Sid, ya just gotta have the right email provider. My email box has a bunch of folders and is likely bigger than most companies allow. My business partner has a giant email inbox. I just take my company’s email administrator to lunch occasionally and all is good.

We used to be capped at 2GB. When we went to using 365 online their default cap is 50GB. We have about half our users with mobile accounts (web access only) that are capped at 3GB.

HR, or People and Culture (ie Prayer and Cult) likes to send out weekly announcements and more, and there is the daily bible verse that are all graphics intensive emails so they look all pretty like. We have also gone to Tableau for various sales reports that is all graphics now. It actually adds up pretty quick. There are users that have been with the company for 1 year and never logged in or used their 3GB accounts that have 1GB in just announcements and bible verses that go out to every user.

The sad part is I have to archive users email pst files when they leave, even if they never logged in. We use AWS Glacier and pay to store all those copies of those pretty announcements. It costs to upload, it costs for the storage used, and it costs to download as well. (however we will probably never download the terminated users pst files).

I used to do the graphics for the daily bible verse. Actually enjoyed finding pictures that helped illustrate the verse. One day the bible versus was warning of life after death without Christ. I use a picture of zombies (the walking dead had just become popular). Heck, the company chaplain thought it was great. But, the zombies offended some of the bible thumpers and they complained. So now we just get the same old boring picture of a bible, day after day.

Try to keep my email under control. There are retention profiles that can be assigned to folders that have different time limits, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, etc. I only have a couple of folders for keeping files indefinately, the rest automatical delete within 6 months at the longest. Have an alerts folder that deletes after a week. I have rules that shuffle the alerts I don't deal with into that folder and mark as read. I rarely if ever just use the default delete button. Most stuff I move to my Trash Mo folder that deletes items after a Month.

Just did an export to see and have 1.3GB pst.

Oh, we do have litigation hold set an some users. Even after they delete messages it puts the messages in an archive they never see that can be accessed with litigation search privileges.
I don't know why we do it. Because we are an S Corp we are not required to keep anyone's email. And are only having me secretly archive selected individuals.

Our limits are based around frugality. But when you figure 500k employees at 2gb each.... its no small amount to store.

Also, the less server space we use, the more we can rent out to other people!

Yep we gots big files and don't do nuthin to clean them up. We've got files and reports that still run and haven't been used for 25 years.

I could easily use Office's Content Search to go thru and delete any older annoucements and bible verses for users mailboxes.
But they don't want to do that. I don't know why. There is no reason for a employee to keep the 4 different announcements sent out for a bowling night or day at the park, etc.

Stijn!!

One of our clients that we fly for uses Amazon Monster computers. All we do is provide the images and they do all the data processing. They run their software they developed and upload that to the Amazon servers and throw a huge amount of processing at it. It is done in no time. It would take us a month or more to process the data and they do it with big data.

It is cool to watch the 24 hours of LeMans with good coverage. At the almost 4 hours in to see Alanzo in P1 is cool. Been a while since Alanzo was in P1.
If the Toyotas can make it for the full 24 hours they have a win in hand. The 2 Toyotas are the ONLY P1 running a hybrid and are running away with the race. All they have to do is run for 24 hours.

Good lazy Sunday Afternoon.

Got my weekly lectricity usage report. Thought it were interesting so logged in for more details.

My thermostat was not on the network so was not seeing the price signal. So even though I was getting charged the higher rate from 2-7pm my thermostat was not trying to maintain the higher temps during the higher rate. This past week with the temps getting into the low 90's the rate was 21¢ a kWh. So even though it was pre-cooling it was not bumping up the thermostat until Tues after I called an they reset my termostat network.

My energy usage was 42kWh until it started getting the peak signal. With the peak signal and maintaining a higher temp during peak it dropped to 38kWh. The interesting thing is they don't do the peak signal on weekends. It doesn't pre-cool, just maintain same temp all day. My energy usage was still 38kWh. For 92° days the setback and higher peak temps use the same amount of electricity, just at a different time of day.

The difference is the usage during peak times was only 2.5kWh during the 5 hour peak when the price is 21¢. Versus 11kwh on weekend afternoons when the price is 5¢.

So for peak days my cost is 35.5kWh x 5¢ plus 2.5kWh x 21¢ or $2.30 a day.
Weekends it's 5¢ x 38kWh or $1.90 a day.
if I was not on the plan it would be 10¢ a kWh or $3.80 a day.

Next week the highs are forecast to be below the 90s, Yay.

The 24 hours of LeMans was great to watch great to watch start to finish, all on one channel. THe race for the overall lead was boring, with just the manufactured drama to get Alanzo his win. It has been a while since Annzo has been in the winner circle. He did great and I am happy he won. It is a same Toyota had to win because there was no real competition. Only two other cars in LMP1 even finished ahead of the GT cars, and they were like 14 laps down all on pace.

The Porsche 911 winning 1 & 2 in GTE Pro and the first place finish by the 911 in GTE AM was cool.

I loved having it all on my DVR and not having to watch it live. The many commercials were skipped, and the endless interviews with some team that was running at the back of the pack and people I never heard of I skipped. The long coverage of parts of the LMP1 cars non race was skipped. In the end I watched 25 1/2 hours of coverage in 16 or 17 hours of watching. That was a lot of butt sitting, but I did work in a lawn mowing to let the DVR get ahead. SO the yard is mowed, we made it to the club breakfast, and even went grocery shopping, and I watched a 24 hour race.

Morning all. Both kids are home and now the drive way is full again. I'll have to play tetris to get the 911 out

We are limited to 2GB for managers and above and 1GB for everyone else. There are no exceptions. We really encourage people to put any important attachments into their home network folder for safe keeping and delete it from their email. You can save a ton of space that way.
