I dropped off my old OEM seat belts at Seat Belt Planet on Monday. They called me yesterday afternoon and they were ready. Now that is great service. They look great, and today they go back into the car.
I "had" to show my 911 to yet another employee there, and he took pictures. They are the place that makes the seat belts for Singer, Rennline, and lots of other companies. The have re-webbed seat belts from a new 918 for a customer that wanted something different in color. The bought the last roll of 918 original seat belt material from Porsche for the future. They have seat belt material in lots of wild colors. From paisley girly colors or camouflage, or colors to match the color of the car. Great company. I am lucky to have them just 4 miles from my house.

Phew, I spent all day out in the garage yesterday. The new carpet is back in. The front, side and rear trim pieces are back in place. It all has to go together in a certain order, and it is all sorta interconnected.
This morning I painted the new lower door panels. They look pretty good. The seat belt guides on the back of the seat are pointing up, and after all the years they had faded a lot, so I painted them back to the right color. Pretty cool tech. I use a adhesion promoter first, and let it dry a little, then two light coats of the color and presto changeo, a black plastic panel is a burgundy panel. The wind was pretty much none, and I had the shade of the house and used the cardboard the panels came in as a cover for the concrete so no paint on the driveway. Another step closer to done. I am letting the garage, and me cool off for a few minutes, and hopefully today make some major progress on the project.

Dang, you get to draw some exciting stuff. One of those things we all need, and 99% of the population never pay them any attention, until they the services stop, or they run into one from bad driving practices.

So, our 7th grade boy had their first 7th-8th grade football scrimmage today. Poor kid played defensive tackle and got double teamed most of the night. He did OK playing guard and tackle on offense, but one kid he had a hard time blocking since the other kid only came up to Jacob's chest. They aren't allowed to touch the helmet when blocking and I thought he would be a great tight end since he is big and has pretty good hands (he used to practice diving on the couch catching the football since he was little) but they have to weigh less than 150 pounds to carry the ball. He is 5'10" and 172#. I was 5'10 and 178# as a sophomore.

That is big for a 7th grader. I was 5'11 and 155 in high school. When I was in 9th grade, we had a gym class, or PE. One of the upperclassmen, a senior was a class "mentor" and we were supposed to relate to him. Mostly they had him in that class as a place to put him with no tests. He was a Samoan, and 6'3 and 325. Just a mountain of flesh. He could run fast for 20 yards or so. He of course just happened to be the center for the football team. He would hike the ball and block three kids at once. If they were on short yardage, a quarterback sneak, and he could plow through a 5 or 6 yard gain with defensive team hanging all over him. They were state champs that year.
I have the seat back in place, and all the trim moldings, in place. Just the door panels to finish up and hopefully today I will have the El Camino back on the road.

I stopped for my lunch break. The jerk boss does not let me take long. One more "while I am in there" fix. The driver's door handle gets a lot of use after 377,000 miles. It has felt funny, or at lest not right, but it worked fine. With the door panels off I could see the problem, a spring that returns the handle down and holds it in place had broken. The old spring was in the door bottom. Gravity is pretty reliable, and did OK for bringing the handle down.
So thread my hand into a hole the is lined with sharp edges for a few more nicks on my arms and the old handle is out. It is 100% analog, no power locks so just the rods and levers to make it work. One clip has to be slid forward, and two nuts removed. I bought a new handle years ago knowing that I would have to replace it someday. The replacement is a Dorman, and looked like crap compared to the factory one. The only problem was the spring, so use the spring on the old handle and back into place. The real challenge was to get the pull rod back into the right position while looking through the window opening, and restricted hand movement made it a 6 on the 0 to 10 cussing scale. Finally got it on by double checking the passenger side to make sure. The driver's door top panel is easy. The lower panel is the new one. The car had a outside mirror control knob that is once again 100% analog, and held in place by jam nuts. I cut the funny shaped space for the bezel, and managed to get that back on. Now for speakers mounting and hookup and then the passenger side. Getting close to done. I am ready to be done.

Yep. But I ma 99.897% done. Just some minor adjustments and clean up the workbench and the garage.
Today I got the new moisture barriers in place, and the insulation pad for the doors. Then put the door panels back on and wired up the speakers. For the first time in 30 years I can rock out in the El Camino. No more rattly crappy speakers. I finished up at 3:45, took a shower and sat down to relax. I would take a nap, but the dogs wanna be fed, and the wife wants me to take her out for date night. Next time I will just write a check for that much work.

The new interior is great.
Dang well better be after all that work. A few drips of my blood are involved, and now locked under the carpet under the seat area. Lots and lots of sweat, and a few words of profanity. Yesterday we got some rain, 2.5 inches of rain. That will fill up all the local lakes we use for drinking water. And it sure is nice to see it. They even say we might get more today. Bring it on.

With the rains yesterday our humidity is horrible. 81 degrees, 81% humidity. We want it to cook up some more thunderstorms and rain. We got 2.5 inches of rain yesterday and that brings the total for the month to 2.61 for the month.

Gee, all it does is rain, all month it has been raining!
No complaints, it is not much of a rain but just a light drizzle and we are only up to .14 inches so far. A good soaking rain, I wish it would keep it up for a week, but that ain't gonna happen. I started getting weird problems with my AV system. The Tivo DVR box feeds to the surround sound multimedia amp and then back to the TV and also off to my speakers. I started losing the video, then the strangest of all was a message from the Tivo that the HDMI cable was unauthorized. It had been in place for years. I scratched my head, and did some online research. I ordered 4 new HDMI 2.2 cables with Ethernet and all the latest specs. Bingo, that fixed the issues. Bizarre. The cables are cheap and not too hard to replace. I can just push a button on the amp's remote and change from the new current Tivo box and watch regular TV or anything recorded. Or I can switch to the security system's cameras and look at at my yard, which is pretty boring. Old another button to go to the Apple TV box. MY DVD player is so old and unused, I have pulled it from the cabinet and will take it to the recycle place. If I have a DVD to watch I will use my computer. It even plays Blue Ray and has decent speakers and a sub woofer.
