Get off my lawn!

The car show was fun and interesting. It was a bit hot towards the end, but low humidity and a breeze make it very tolerable.
I won second place to a guy that brought a 1972 914 1.7 that was virtually all original. The original paint and interior. No rust and it was a real barn find. The owner parked it in a barn, and it had several decades of barn dust covering it. It took a lot of work to bring the shine back to the paint. No rust at all. Lots of people had never seen a 914 and did not know Porsche ever made a mid engine car in the 1970s.

I went to see my cardiologist for a follow up visit today. They asked I was a computer person and was able to send a log to them of my blood pressure reading.
I said no problem, I am am a long time geek. I can't just email it to them, it has to go through a portal system that has all my medical records for all visits from all the doctors. I don't mess with that type of crap on my phone with a tiny hand held device when I have a real computer and a 27 inch monitor right in front of me. So I had to export the file as a Excel file from the BP monitor to my email. Then I had to print it is a PDF or JPG file as they don't take text, or Excel. As if a PDF or JPG can't have an embedded virus or worm. Next visit, I may just print it out and do it like an analog man. I would no be surprised to find out they then scan it, and use OCR to convert it to text for the archive. Whatever, I made it work.

Yea, the funniest thing to me, was the printed out the two pages from the Portal that was just exactly what I see if I log in. I have already shredded it, as I have no use for an analog copy.
My CPA has for all of his career prepared a nice folder with a copy of all the tax returns and reports and just crap to store. I finally have him to understand, just an digital copy for me.

Howdy all. All the work to rearrange the garage to fit the new toolbox is done. Glad the Cobra is not painted yet. Bunch of crap got piled on it. Guess if it was painted the crap would have gone elsewhere.

At the car show one guy drove his Cobra Daytona replica built by one of the major builders. It looked great, but it has no side curtains, heater and certainly no AC. He said he only drives it on clear days as the track tires on it would be scary in the rain.
It was a cool car that is really just a track toy. It was really LOUD when he started it. It would be fun to be a passenger and to have a real pro driver to do some laps at a track. As a certified weenie, I will stick to my street car and drive in comfort. It was really cool however.

NOT in Oklahoma!
I have seen -13 and +111 here in OKC. I did drive the 911 when it was 4 or 5 below zero, and it is the only time I ever had the heater cranked to max for more than a few minutes. The AC did just fine in the 107 of Palm Springs, and once before in Needles, CA it was 118 and the AC kept me from sweating and it was doing all it could to keep me happy. And in Savannah, GA in a heat index of 135 my wife asked me to turn the AC up, as she was cold. The entire car was covered in condensation on the outside like a cold bottle of water just pulled from the fridge on a humid day. No AC needed today, it is after 12:00 PM and only 68 degrees.

Long time no see! How are things?
I have had fun dealing with the Oklahoma Tax commission over sales tax. 99.999% of our sales are services only, we deliver links to files for the customer to download. Just electrons in a specific order, and most often the few sales of a print or prints is to a state agency, or a church, or a sales tax exempt entity. Last year, we actually had a new flight, and all of the typical tax exempt services, but they ordered some prints that were $105 total taxable sales. We collected $8.66 in sales tax. When I went to file my report, there was no option to file a report as there was before. So I just sent the $8.66 and figured at least I would not be in delinquent. Last Friday I got a letter that said my account did not show a report and I was a bad boy. I tried again to file the report, and there was no way to do it on-line. So I called them. My mistake was calling on a Friday afternoon, I guess they all go home early on Friday. I was on hold for 45 minutes and finally got the option of leaving a message for them to call me. No call back on Friday, nothing on Monday or Tuesday, but this morning at 8:02 AM I saw a local call, and decided to take a chance it was legit. It was the tax commission! I told her there was no place on the web page to file my return, and she sounded like a was a moron and she had me log in, and she went to the same page and there was a pause, and she said "what is going on?" then I heard typing and all of sudden I had the old page that allowed me to file a report. She said "the computer" changed it somehow. So I got to file the report from last year, but since it was overdue, I owed 47 cents in penalties! Screw it, I am not fighting over 47 cents. So I paid it. Typical government "services" and bureaucrats.

I am....alive.
When did I last check in? Started back to school in 2019 with a whopping 12 hours to transfer in. I should be finishing up in 2024. That's been an experience. Taken a lot of amazing classes, a few mediocre classes, and a few classes that left me thinking "Why the hell did I register for this?" 4 semesters of Arabic and a ton of classes on Islam/Middle East politics.....also took a summer semester of Latin for some reason....that was painful. I've got a History of Harvard and a WWI History class this semester. After this semester I won't have any requirements other than gross credits. Working an a grad school application. Only applying to one grad school. If I don't get in, I'll find work in one of the gulf countries. Hmmm, what else.....I drive a Camry. It's amazing. When I get in and turn the key, it just starts and I don't have a dash full of expensive error lights.... Also, bought a house. It was built in 1896.....it's been an interesting decision so far. |

So a nice new house!
Yea, modern cars are easy. Get in and go, and blend in with the generic cars. I am still driving the same two cars, the 86 El Camino is up to 381,000 miles and the 85 911 just turned 191,000. Keep getting educated! Someone needs to.

Thinking I might try to squeeze in another language before graduating....just to prove I enjoy pain. Only bad part about the Camry is the note payment. Most I've ever paid for a car....also the newest car I've ever owned. On the bright side, with the car market being so crazy, I haven't ever really been upside down on the loan. |

I hear you are great at moving crap in and out of storage.
![]() I certainly understand I have been lucky. I have done for a profession what millions of people do as a hobby. At the car show the couple I sat next to the wife had a camera bag full of camera gear. I asked if she was a pro or an hobbyist. She said she was an artist! She had worked for a local professional photographer as an intern, but that did not pay much at all, so she is a nurse as a real job. I told her I have only worked in the photographic industry since I was 14 and that is all I have ever done, beside mow laws as a kid. They had a really nice almost all original 1972 914 and he still did not know much about them. I said I ordered a 1974 914 2.0 when I was 19. She said and you made the money as a photographer? Yep, I was working full time at a photo place as a press and commercial photographer, I shot wedding all spring, and football films for coaches in the football season. I was working constantly, and had the money to make the payments. My good luck in a career was fantastic when just as digital was killing commercial photography, I jumped into aerial photography with an established company. Now we have an aerial camera system that all fits into a pelican case, and will fit in carry on luggage that shoots a better image than the $495,000 state of the art 9x9 film camera we had at the company where I worked. The Canon 5DSR oblique camera we have is far superior to a film camera we used that shot a 2.25 x 2.75 chunk of film and only 10 exposures per roll of film. Now we can shoot 600 images and not think twice about it, it just data.

Like many cool old British cars, they are just a hobby vehicle for people that like to tinker on them to make them run.
When I was out in desert of Joshua Tree national park the place was really cool to see, as long as I had a car and a cooler with water with me. ![]() When I took that, I had driven to one overview area and I had not seen anyone else for 30 minutes, and it was 20 minutes more before I saw another vehicle. I thought about it as I walked over to my 38 year old car with 190,000 miles on it. It was really nice to have German engineering all working and keeping a big smile on face as I drove.

The boss's wife put me to work yesterday. We have had a doggie door since we moved in. It is way bigger than we need for just dachshunds, but it was already there. We had to replace it once before because the flap material gets stiff, and doe not seal up very well.
She bought a entire new unit, so remove the old one, and install the new model, but wait, it is 1/2 inch wider. So out comes the sawsall, and lots of sweating and cussing. Finally got it wide enough to fit the new one in place, and what a mess it makes. I left the cleanup to the cleanup crew. ![]() The wird part is the old flap was rather opaque and the new one is very clear. Now we can see the sidewalk and the yard just outside. Since both dogs get really lazy in cold or wet weather, they often use the yard right outside the door to pee. The grass can't handle that much pee, so it is not the best grass there.
