It hit 80 degrees yesterday. Perfect weather to change the oil on the Macan.

First time I have had it on the lift.

It is supposed to rain all day today. I hope they are right, as we could use it.

Yea, I got it to speak convert to English and all is well. When I turned it on, it wanted to update. The Wi-Fi signal in the garage is rather week, so I walked into my office to be right next to the router. It downloaded the update and a firmware update. I had it all updated last week, but I guess it is like every computer, updates are common.

It comes with one year of updates. I have a reminder on my calendar to do an update to it right before the year is up. No need to update after that unless some crazy rich person just has to buy my 911 for stupid money and I get a new 911 with the proceeds. That seems very unlikely, so no updates on the reader.

It was pretty easy to use. And it read the vin automatically, so it knows the car now. It does have a slot for one of the little bitty memory chips. I may get one just to store the data of the car.

Cool. The 911 is probably not even jealous about the new toy.

Yea, the 911 does not talk to computers. There is the one connector just under the throttle that is only used once at the factory to check the flywheel sensors position. It is 100% useless thereafter. I did upgrade the computer chip for the DME to the real power user version. It came with just a 4K chip, but I have the super powerful 8K chip! Mostly because no has made a 4K chip in years and 8K is the smallest anyone makes.

My El Camino has the predecessor to OBD connections, the ALDL connection. Just a reader, no two way communications possible.

We had snow early Saturday morning but it got u to 65 in the day so it all went away quickly.

There is a family here from Afghanistan that the dad did security at an army base there. We took them (10 of the 11, one is still trapped over there) to the local nature center. The girls had never been out of the house except to travel to the US. The mom was even playing in the creek and watching the fish. I was glad we hadn't sold the Durango yet since we could get two of us and five of them in the Durango and the same in the Pacifica. The girls all rode in the minivn and the mom was excited because the doors opened and closed automatically for her (my wife was pushing the buttons).

They then served us lunch for taking them. They use a flat bread instead of forks or spoons. Eat with your right hand only, the left is for wiping and therefore unclean.

I have to go pick up another garden shed. I hate putting up garden sheds and having the big bad wolf come along, especially before it is finished.

Happy birthday and anniversary (late) all y'all.

Almost time to get the Cobra out.

Brent, back when I was still living in Alabama, my parents bought a cabin at Lake Martin, Alabama. They had a BASS boat and they had it for almost a year before they invited my brother or I up there. It was my brother's birthday, and almost the 4th Of July to boot. They also invited a mother and her daughter that they knew from France. France is not quite as foreign custom wise as Afghanistan, but almost.

They were a family that was fairly well off, and only the daughter spoke English. The mom only spoke French, so the daughter had to translate. We proceeded to be loud and proud fun loving Americans for the 4th of July, at the lake. Mom and dad had fried chicken, and hamburgers and hot dogs and everyone was barefoot, and relaxed and just like you can imagine a family at the lake in the USA.

The French lady came outside and her daughter sounded astonished, as she looked at her mom. She had to translate and see said it was the first time she had ever seen her mom's feet! It was her first time to go barefoot! Then when it was time to eat, we all picked up the burgers, hotdogs, or chicken and ate with our fingers. Her mother had never in her life touched her food and eaten with her fingers. She always used forks or spoons or some utensil.

She likely went back to France and talked about what pigs Americans are. The men sit around shirtless, wearing just a bathing suit, and eating a piece of chicken with their fingers and drinking a coke right from the can was just common, and something she had never seen before.

The Autel tablet is just a Andriod tablet, with some programs installed. It does have email, and printing functions. I just ordered a Micro SD card to store the data and reports with. Otherwise it overwrites it with every update. It can oly handle a 32 GB card, but they should be a lot more than any car can generate for data.

The tornadoes were way south, mostly in Baja, OK AKA Texas, and near the big lake that borders Texas, Lake Texhoma. It was a small tornado that did the typical damage to barns, sheds and mobile homes.

We did get a nice all day rain and 2.02 inches of rain out of it. We are due to climb back to 70s and 80s this week, so shorts weather will return soon. I likely will have to mow the yard soon.

As I took the trash to the curb last night, I waited for a break in the rain. The earthworms were crawling out to escape drowning. There were a couple that were HUGE. Easy 12 to 14 inches long crawling along the driveway. I used my pocketknife to pick two of the huge ones up and I tossed them on top of the compost pile. That should be above the water and well drained. The many tiny ones, I left to mother nature. I figured the big ones should be making babies and doing good for the compost pile. It already has lots of worms in it.

The Robins love when they pop out of the ground like that here.

They are great for turning compost into great dirt!

Yea, my grandfather had two worm beds. They looked like two coffins in the garden area. Grandpa went to the bair store and bought two tubs of worms. He filled them up with his compost pile, and grandma used it like a garbage disposal. It was amazing to see all the leftovers just vanish and turn into black soil. After a year he would harvest the soil for the vegetable garden. Plant a seed, and jump back because it was growing fast. Corn as high as an elephants eye, like the song.

The Autel Maxicheck MX808 gizmo to use with the Macan, has a space for a Mini SD card. It is a little bitty card, and it is used to make backups and store the info from the car long term. It of course it does not come with a card, so I ordered one from Amazon. Like the old potato chip commercials, you can't have just one. I bought two 32 GB cards, and a adapter to the SDHC size cards for about 12 bucks. I wondered what to do with the second card, but there is always something. I dug into my collection of cards and found old ones like a 512 MB Compact Flash, and some 2 and 4 GB SD cards. So thought about the Canon digital camera I have. It does not get much use, as my phone is a lot easier to carry around. Anyway, I popped out the card in it, and it was a whopping 8 Gig. It would store hundreds of photos. Now the camera has a 32 Gig card, and will store more photos that I will ever shoot. I shoot everything in max resolution, and RAW, so maximum storage space usage.

It is just unreal how cheap memory is. I remember paying 40 bucks or more for my first USB thumb drive and it was likely a 4 MB unit. I really don't know why I keep the old cards that are so small, but "maybe they will be useful someday!" At least they are small.

The rain is over, and the sky is blue and spring feels like it is almost here.

I even had to order some new shorts. I splurged and ordered 4 pair! I never understood why shorts, jeans & slacks, are referred to as a pair, yet a shirt is singular, and even most confusing a bra is singular. We have a shirt sleeve, yet our legs go into one leg of the slacks. Why is a shirt a sleeve and not a shirt arm? English is crazy.
