It was a very careful cut. I let the cutting disk just get through the plastic. In reality I had no choice, it was a crappy paperweight as it was so I did not have much to lose. Then a through blow out with an airgun and back to reassembly.

The most frustrating part of it all was getting the CPU cooler back on. It is a teeter totter contraption that will fall out of position if I tilted it at all. Getting the think right on top of the CPU, and then getting the one side hooked on the clamp, then not wiggle anything, and flip down the clamp to hold it is place took an hour and lots of cussing. It is a total Rube Goldberg, mousetrap that would have made Rube jealous he never thought of it.

looks very nice, did you paint a wood floor?

Once a wood floor is oil stained it will never be clean looking again.
Like the aluminum it will be slippery when wet.
I mop it with simple green after every race.

I was in line at a buffet meal at Parade one year and started chatting with the guy in line behind me. We got to talking about trailers, and he said he started with a open trailer pulled by his F150 pickup. That was soon replaced with bigger and bigger trailers and trucks. He was a retired doctor, and he just traveled the country with his rig and went to various car shows and race days. His wife of many years had died, and he wanted to see the country and enjoy life.

We ate together, and he invited me to see his trailer. It was a 18 wheeler, Kenworth tractor, with a large sleeping area. The trailer was a white trailer with not for hire on it, and when asked what he was hauling he just would say old tires, true but a partial truth.

He opened the back, and he had three cars inside, a 914-6 GT track car, a spot for his new at the time 911 street car and a 904 show car. It looked like the snap on truck was just off loaded into his trailer. All the tools needed to do any repair. The 914 had no windshield, and the 904 is short as well, so he had a lot of vertical space for the 911 street car to fit under it. Lots of spare tires, and a tire mounting rig. He could go to a car show, autocross or track day. He also went on driving tours in the street car.

He said he goes home a few weeks at a time to Oregon, to make him a legal resident of the state, then back out on the road. This was all 15 or 20 years ago, so I suspect he has stopped that travel by now.

I suspect that would be fun for a couple of years, and he would be done with it.

Good story, Race weekends are fun and camping at the track all weekend is better than any hotel.

Yea, he loved it.

He complained that the rich folks would just hire a pit crew so they just arrived at the track, hopped in, ran the race, and left the crew to do all the work to get to the next track. I guess it is all dependent on how deep ones pockets are, and how much they are will to spend on toys.

One of my other friends is single, he owns three motorcycles, a car, a pickup, a Cessna 210 Turbo, and a 1946 Cessna 140, he has three hangars, one has a complete shop and office in the end. All just for fun. He is a commercial pilot, and on occasions if my business partner is out on a job, he will fly a project for us. He really does not want to fly for money anymore. He does fly up to Oshkosh fairly regularly but he skipped it this year. Super nice guy. One of those folks that I can't image anyone does not like him.

My business partner is not vehicle poor either. He has two cars, one motorcycle, two scooters, a pickup truck and 1/2 of our airplane. For a single man it is a bit overkill.

Fall has really finally arrived. The highs are forecast to be in the 60s and 70s for the next week.

Morning. We have had fall like mornings all week. Fog (marine) layer rolls in at night burns off by noon and warms up.

I made a journey to the city hazardous waste disposal site. I live in NE OKC area, and the disposal site 19 miles away on the near SW side of town. Almost all interstate to get there. For the first time in many years, I made it there and back and there was no road construction!

One big project that finished up in the early spring was a 8 year project to rebuild massive interstate exchange. Then they had worked on several bridges, and resurfacing. This trip, all the way with no construction was almost like cheating.

I got rid of 5 gallons of oil motor oil, two old spray paing cans that were plugged up, a handful of household batteries, like AAA, AA and D cell plus the button battery from the motherboard I replaced the BIOS on. I replaced that battery even though I think it was OK. I know it had been in there for many years. And I also gave them the battery from one of my UPS battery backups, and a mercury vapor UV light for the Koi pond. All safely and properly disposed of. It just cost me the round trip mileage, and the El Camino is pretty cheap per mile after 31 years and 377,000 miles. No mileage depreciation to worry about.

The place I used to get my Kendall motor oil from is on the far SW part of town, and it was 44 miles each way. I started getting my oil from Amazon delivered to my door just to avoid the long trip, and it was a toll road to boot, and the toll was 6 bucks each way.

Doing the BIOS chip replacement inspired me to check the BIOS version on my main system. Sure enough, I was running a BOIS from 9-24-21 and the current version is from May 2022.

It is always a bit scary to do it, as it is changing the core of the computer system. My computer takes forever from initial cold start to even see the BIOS screen. I have to assume is it checking the RAM memory, and counting through the 256 gig takes a while and always makes me pucker looking at a black display and no activity. Finally the BIOS splash comes on, and with a BIOS change, it reboots multiple times.

The only real reason I updated was my audio system has been acting up. I download the latest Audio drivers and it is insane, 401 MB just for the sound driver! I was on my 4th computer or so before I even had a 400 MB hard drive. The BIOS update seems to have fixed the audio issues so far so I will leave the audio update uninstalled for now.

Morning all. Working from home today so I can be here to let a contractor in. After 20 years in the house a few of the vanity sinks have issues so its time to replace them, Since they all match that means all 5 must be replaced.

I know that story!

Mrs Carrera wanted to replace the counter tops in the kitchen with granite. Well, while we are in there.....

Might as well do both bathrooms, and the laundry room so the countertops match. And the kitchen sink was not just what she wanted, so might as well do a new sink, and garbage disposal. Oh, all new backsplash and counter surrounds in tile!

And while we are doing countertops, let's do all new tile on the bathroom floors, and gosh, lets redo the showers, and get a new shower door, in the bathrooms as well, and make them heated floors.

It does all look nice, but golly it was fun living in all that construction.

When we bought this house we both agreed it was our forever home. I am not moving until it is to the retirement home, or on a gurney to the morgue.

One thing our guy did was do it right the first time. He was very careful, and a real pro that cared about his craftsmanship. He was the company owner, and it was not his first rodeo.

When Mrs. Carrera decided to replace the ugly steel front door the builder used, she picked out the solid core door and the lumber yard recommended a guy to install it. He was really cool to watch. The first thing out of the box was the instructions, which he threw away instantly.

He measured everything twice, and removed the old door and frame, and put in the new one just step by step, and not once did he go back and do something differently or wrong. He drilled the door knob hole and the deadbolt hole and after installation closed the door and it just clicked right into place. 10 years later it is still perfect, and the door closed like a TV commercial. Just click, and done. He cleaned up everything and hauled away the old door and frame and the trash. Very professional.

Our wood floor installation was done by a team of monkeys. Very poor workmanship, we made them send out a good installer to fix a lot of issues. They butchered the wall trim with a really dull blade. It is just "OK" now but not done like it should have been.

The faucets leaking is probably due to reusing the old ones and I bet thy didn't like being moved. The big leak is probably from a replacement valve in one of the feed lines. He was willing to come out this morning to fix it but I am not home for work anymore.

That was one reason we went with an all new sink and faucets. No leaks with new stuff.
