Yea, I can pull the steering wheel in no time. No air bags to worry about. The seats have provisions for the seat heaters. They are genuine Recaro seats but just stock 911 seats.

Richard, all that stuff can be programmed around with vag com. You can put 2.2 ohm resistors in the airbag plugs and the remaining airbags will still work just fine.

VW wouldn't let me do it or it would void ALL warantees. Not something I was willing to do on a new 2005 car, especially since the service at the local dealership sucked. If something broke it would have cost a fortune. Still seems to me they would have rather made me a happy customer than buy the car back for what I paid for it including tags and tax. Especially since I had a doctors statement that the seat was causing the nerve damage. Maybe I wasn't a special case and they were trying to defer a law suit.

I had never heard of anyone having the problem until actor Hugh Grant was the star in a reasonably priced car on Top Gear. He talked about really liking his Aston Martin until he drove his brother's VW Golf and it caused him pains like mine. They jokingly called it Golf Balls. After the Golf said it even made the Aston Martin give him Golf Balls so he reluctantly sold it and got a 911. The 911 didn't hurt at all.

The thing I was considering doing to the Passat before the seat problems was upgrading the suspension. Springs, shocks, or both. It got really squirrelly and wandered scarily at anything over 90mph. Euro springs were really cheap for it, under $400 for all 4 corners. It was what I was going to do next if they could fix the seat.

Stijn!!

On more than one trip I have driven for 12 hours and only stopped because it was the smart place to stop for the day. No butt pain in the 911.

My but isn't the issue. My lower back kills me. Doesn't seem to matter what car, after about 2 hours I've got to get up.

That's one of the reasons I liked the 968 sport seats. They were easier on the ingress egress. Not quite so big side bolsters.
Gave the 944 sport seats to Brian. They didn't need it but he had them recovered blue to match is 944 Turbo.

Haven't had any golf ball problems with any of the Porsches I've owned, sport seats or not.
When the problem started I had both the Passat and a BoxsterS and the black 944 Turbo. Before and after the Passat pain, drove the BoxsterS on long trips without any problems. Even drove the Boxster to Wichita KS to buy the 944 Turbo and drive the 951 home.

The one grateful thing about the severely irritated nerves cause by the Passat was that I was able to determine if a seat was going to be a problem or not within about 15 to 20 minutes of test drive.

There was only one dealer that wouldn't let me test drive their cars. The local Dodge Chrysler dealership. They were idiots. They said if I wanted to test drive a car to go rent one. Told them they would not be selling me a car because I was not paying to rent a car to see if I wanted to buy it.

Most of the dealerships understood my problem and offered to let me have the car overnight. Took most back after 15 to 20 minutes. The only one I kept overnight was the Saab and that's because I got it late in the evening and Sam, the owner of the Saab dealership drove my Passat home to see if it hurt his butt. He said it did.

The BMWs sport seats, and the Cayenne have lumbar adjustment. And it was an option on the 928 but never messed with them as it never was a problem. Understand that some of the 944 guys were putting mouse pads under the padding in the seat backs to improve lumbar support.

Usually like to make a pit stop every 200 miles or less at the nearest major city to get out, walk around, take a bathroom break, and replenish the drinks and snack options. Just to keep from getting road hypnotized. When trippin to Rolla Mo I pit in Joplin which is the 200 mile halfway point. If going to Dallas I always stop at the Love's in Ardmore, again halfway but not near 200 miles. Going to Austin I stop in Ardmore and some little town south of Dallas that has the farthest south Braums so I can take Braums Cherry Limeade Ice Cream to my friends wife in Austin. Last time going to Austin I also stopped at some truck stop in the middle of nowhere and got "The Worlds Best" Knishes.

I can drive for quite a while with no stop by myself. One bit of advice, never ride with my two co-workers. On the trip back from Baton Rouge, LA we drove for 5 hours straight with no stop. I finally cried "Uncle" and we needed gas anyway. The gas station we stopped at did not have any bathrooms so we loaded back up and drove for 30 minutes to a better area and we stopped.

With my IBS I've discovered you just really can't tell what a bathroom is going to be like. When you just gotta go now you don't get to be too choosy. Some that you would think would be nice and clean are nasty pits, and some of the dumpiest looking places actually have a nice clean restroom. Have surprised on many occasions where really nice restaurants have horrible restrooms.

One of the most surprising was a dumpy looking quick stop place in a seedy part of FT Worth. The place did not look very clean and there were bums, prostitutes, and a pimp hanging around in the parking lot. Just HAD to go. Inside the store looked kind of dingy too. Braced myself to have to do an air drop. But, it was one of the nicest cleanest restrooms I've been to on the road.

I try to plan ahead for the large transactions, that would prevent me from having to perform an "air drop". Just peeing can be done almost anywhere, including into a jar like the truckers do.

Stijn!!

On my road trips the best most modern rest stop I ever saw was in California. The most disgusting horrible place ever was in California. Both were state run rust stops.

That's the problem with IBS, there ain't no such thing a plan ahead.

For the first year after my foot thing I kept a log of what I ate, when, my blood sugar, my execise, all my intake and output. Found for me it just wasn't that simple. Sometimes no matter it is it has an immediate effect, sometimes a couple of days. That's why it is called IBS.

Sometimes you can pass gas like regular people, sometimes might as well spend the next few hours on the throne. I've replaced the seat with one of those padded ones for just those occasions. On those occasions dream of having a bathroom like Willard Whytes in Diamonds are Forever. With all the enterainment and communications amenities within reach of the amenities.

Good Monday morning folks. Except you Jim, good Saturday morning.

I never did get out to the garage to R&R the seat switch. Mrs Carrera had some honey-dos for me and I only had a short afternoon left. I hate trying to rush through a project and the switch is not a high priority repair. I will also me sure I have the second power outlet rock solid and ready to go. I bought a new power converter to have two USB ports with with the power to charge two iPads at once if needed. The car stereo can take input from out iPhone so we can listen to Pandora or Mrs. Carrera's Sirus subscription that she has for her Infinity. The iPhone app allows her to get the signal to her iPad or iPhone. Plus I have Pandora. We have music covered. Of course the DVD with the good music is in the unit playing most of the time.

Cayenne already has 2 additional power plugs besides the lighter up front. Keep a phone charging cord plugged in.

Been thinking about upgrading the Radio/Nav in the Cayenne. 2004 was before the iPhone so it don't do the bluetooth call/music thing. It would cost almost as much to update the Nav maps to 2013 as it would to put in a new head unit with bluetooth. Besides the iPhone and updated NAV, the Dynavin does the interface with the MOST and Canbus and so looks and works just like the stock Nav. It works with the Bose and steering wheel buttons. It also sees the parking sensors adding a nifty graphic for the beeping and lights it currently has.

Would like to add a double din head unit with Nav to the 928, but it would take major editing of the center console and that seems to kill the resale value. I could find another console and the HVAC etc and keep the originals to put back in if I want to sell it. They've come out with some new in-dash PCs that would fit better depth wise so could do a custom console and add a PC that would give me all the functions of a new head unit, and let me run stuff like the ECU tuning software for the car, or track data video/timing software. That's what I wanted to do when I could still drive in anger. Probably end up just getting a new 1 din head unit that does the iPhone things and stick the iPhone to the windshield for a NAV display.

This day and age having hands free in-car iPhone integration would be nice.

Morning all. Just got caught up from the week off. Trip was fun except I need to find out who to send the water bill to. Last Thursday at the zoo was a mess of rain and cold.

I still have the crappy Blaupunkt cassette player that my 911 came with. It is in the cabinet in the bathroom in the garage.

I have a MP3 playing DVD reading drive with a aux input in there now. The unit in the Elky plays a USB drive and does the bluetooth bit. I never hooked up the microphone in the car since I have zero plans on using it to make calls in that noisy car. It is nice to listen to Pandora with streamed form the phone. It is cool to use the phone as a GPS and hear the voice through the car speakers while streaming music.

It sucks to have rain on vacation in Florida. We got lucky and had a week a perfect weather when we went. So what was your favorite ride? We loved the Aerosmith ride and the tower or terror.

The cheap JVC touch screen thing did hands free well even in the noisy Rover. Having to go 3 screens deep to change the radio station or songs from the iPhone sucked while driving. They could have done that a lot better.

Last trip I took in the 928 I used my bluetooth headphones for radio, nav audio, calls on the iPhone. Since I was the onliest one in the car it worked great. Kept wanting to take the headphones off in heavy traffic to get the music out of my head so I could think though. Kinda puts the music inside your head instead of inside the car.
