Nope I don't do well with drugs. I feel no pain but I also don't sleep well while taking them. Its time to quit.

But tacos do sound good for lunch!

I had a Taco Tuesday tummy ache. We hit a different restaurant and I was reminded of dinner at about 4AM.

But, I'm back to normal (whatever that is) and ready to take on another day of being "that old guy."

If I wanted to spend more money I could set my home alarm up so punch the Homelink button to close garage door then it arms the alarm once the door is shut. And punch homelink button to open the garage door it disarms the alarm, then opens the garage door. Said could have a homelink or door opener remote button that operates just the door, and another that does the alarm/door.

Said it would take their garage door interface box that operates via bluetooth and another that lets the car's Homelink talk to their bluetooth door interface box.

You don't have robots to handle all of these mundane tasks around the house?

I think our thermostat for the house HIVAC is not working like it should. This morning it was dang cold in the house and it never warmed up to the preset temp. I turned it off and back on and the heater fired up. Of course by this weekend the AC will likely be on instead of heat.

I will replace it since it is one we moved with us from our other house 19 years ago. It is at least 25 years old. I really can't see any reason to have a thermostat on the internet. I just need a good thermostat that is fully programmable.

My Thermostat is part of Electric Company deal. Cools down the house extra before a hot afternoon in the summer, then turns off the A/C during the hot part of the day. I only noticed it getting hot one or two days and just turned on the AC. Because the Electric company lowers it's rate during the summer if you use this thermostat my electric bill was about $200 cheaper last summer comparing to the year before.

The ADT alarm installer said something about getting a thermostat that would be controllable with the wireless control of the alarm system. When I mentioned the thermostat from the electric company he said he personally uses a Nest. Says he didn't think it would help much, but after it learned their habits it saved them $100 more than the electric company one, even with the higher electricity rates.

I just looked at thermostats on Amazon, The Nest is 250 bucks!

As I said, I don't see any need for a internet connected thermostat. My wife is retired and home most of the day. The only real programming I do is to lower the heater at night when we are in bed under blankets. I want it to warm the house a little before the alarm goes off. In the summer of cooling mode it is the reverse. We turn the temp up and sleep under the ceiling fan to stay cool. Cool of the house more as I am getting up and around to go to work.

For our needs I can't fathom any reason for a internet connected thermostat, refrigerator, toaster, microwave or any kitchen appliance. I will never have a video camera INSIDE the house. I have 6 cameras outside.

ADT guy said the Nest learned their habits of turning the temps up and down. Not just whether they were home or not. But did turn ac or heat off when everyone left the house. Said it also adjusted differently according to outside temps so would turn heat/ac off when it was nice out. Those Nests are pricey though. About what my Honeywell programmable thermostat costed ages ago when they were the new thing.

Not into the Internet Of Things stuff myself. Only got the phone/internet thing for the alarm because that is what it took to do the overhead door thing. The delay arming the alarm couldn't be made long enough to get me and the dog in the car, open the door, pull out, then close the door. If I could have programmed the delay a little longer I wouldn't have gotten the Pulse thing that gives me Cell phone access to the system. Did a few test runs and was about 30 seconds over by the time the garage door shut. And would have had even less time pulling in and disarming. This lets me have a much shorter delay. If I wasn't monitoring the overhead door, the defaults would have been fine.

My alarm system is on the internet. That has a real useful function. If we leave and forget to set the alarm I can set the alarm while away from the house. I can see if the either garage door is up or down. I can see the two video cameras that are tied to the alarm system. I can see the status of the system and that is useful. I also get a text alert and email if the system is tripped. A few second later they call and need the password to make sure it is me.

I also like the fact that the smoke and CO detectors are tied into the system. If the smoke or CO alarm goes off they it calls the fire department. The detector is NOT in the kitchen it is in the hallway back close to the master bedroom.

Mine does that without the cameras. Have 2 wired smoke detectors since I have bedrooms at either end of the house. Said before I had system was for the medical alert button and now was wanting to protect the 928. They wanted to put both a motion detector and camera in the garage, and a sensor on the overhead door. Went with just he overhead door sensor.

The overhead door sensor is mounted so if someone tries to push the top open enough to stick in a wire to try to hook and pull the opener release (which is wire tied), it will set off the alarm.

About the only way to make it more secure would be to put in an electrical latch that bolts the door shut when it is closed. I saw the openers like Glen has that turn the rods with the springs at the top of the door has an electrical latch and a battery backup so you can get in/out when the power goes out.

We just set ours and forget about it. Can't do all that fancy schmancy stuff with geothermal, but then we don't need to either.

OK, a stiff pour of Havana Club 7 aņos rum and a Cohiba Esplendido gets my seal of approval for being a great way to chill after a long day

Good over the hump day.

My new garage door opener does have a physical lock. A solenoid pushes a pin through a hole in the track. It has a handle so I can move it if the power goes off. After the door closed you head a "shunk" sound and it is locked. The opener is super quiet. It does have a option for a battery backup but that was stupid in my opinion. I can still pull the cord and lift the door manually. I just have to unlock it with the lever and we don't have a lot of power outages. The battery is rated at just 2 years and is like 45 bucks.

Joe, I have never understood cigars. Glad you can enjoy them. It the Havana club the Cuban version or the Bacardi one? I guess it does not matter as long as you liked it.

You should not pick your wife up when your knee is hurting. You could drop her and injure her and yourself!

Both the Cigar and the rum are cuban. A family member recently took a vacation down there and brought these goodies back. The rum is spectacular. The Cigar is as well, but they're ~$25/stick in Cuba and there are a lot of really good non-cuban cigars in that range. The rum was under $30 for a liter.

Joe, you and Richard are some of the few single guys on this thread. I thought I would post a helpful hint. I bet this really works!
